No, people often make this mistake. It's not Member of British Empire - we were all once this! The correct meanings are...
MBE= Member of the Order of the British Empire
OBE= Officer of the Order of British Empire
CBE= Commander of the Order of the British Empire
Then why isn't it MOBE, OOBE and COBE? And does this mean we can all append 'MBE' to the end of our names?
