This should probably go elsewhere, but will Sky News have an HD channel on Virgin?

My HD was installed yesterday (yay), and I noted the distinct absence of Sky 1 HD, and am wondering if the same will be true for news.

Im pretty sure for the time being it is a Sky+HD exclusive.

There are currently no Sky branded HD channels (Sky1HD, Sky Arts 1HD, Sky Arts 2HD, Sky Real Lives HD, Sky Movies/Sky Sports), on Virgin. Likewise there are no Virgin owned HD channels (I know there's only one - Living HD) on Sky HD.

Ta for the info.

That sucks ass - but hey, I was only going to watch Sky on the basis they had HD - so they've kind of blown off a potential new viewer.

Wouldn't worry too much - the BBC General Election programme will also be HD on BBC HD AIUI (though I suspect all the OBs will be SD, and just the studio production and VR gfx HD)

Are BBC HD not breaking (or close to breaking) their own rules with this then, and the 10 O'Clock News/news channel simulcast after the BBC leaders debate? I thought they had really strict rules about programmes having a certain percentage of native HD content.

Does the exit poll rule extend to online too - I guess the reputable polling organisations would be regulated in some way, but of course there is no way they can police unofficial polls on various forums etc.?

Also as we know the TV broadcasters have joined forces will there be any other exit polls released on Thursday night?

Yes, it's the law and applies to absolutely any media. You are not allowed to broadcast anything that's politically sensitive or might influence the vote while polls are still open. As soon as it's 10pm then they can say what they like - within reason of course.

Of course with postal voting the same applies - a Labour candidate Kerry McCarthy - their twitter tsar no less got into hot water after publishing some details about some postal votes that had been submitted. As she was talking about polling and might influence what else people do either with their postal vote or on polling day then this falls into the same category.

Expect lots of "Sunny weather has brought out the voters" / "Gloomy weather hasn't stopped voters..." from 7am on Thursday.

There seems to have been very little discussion about what the turnout might be this time around.

Back to the first point - and I assume these rules as with virtually everything don't extend to the press - I'm sure the Murdoch media will basically have "Vote Imbeciles" slapped across their front pages on election day.

And as for the postal vote point - the system is at fault there as there is no way the candidates should even be able to get into a position where they know any details about postal votes which have come in.

Really find it odd why ITN don't call on the services of Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy for the ITV coverage, it'd give them an ideal Paxman team to deal with the in depth issues. They really shouldn't be silenced tomorrow night.

It's likely Jon Snow at least is contracted to C4 directly, not ITN - and I suspect even if their C4 contracts allowed it, ITV wouldn't want to be seen as having to bring in outsiders to beef up their election team.

Party agents are permitted to be in the room when the postal votes are opened, just like they're allowed to observe at the counts.

(Also, today I was doing a bit of phone canvassing for a candidate, and one person told me that they'd already voted by post, and who they'd voted for. I think that I wouldn't be allowed to ask them, but if they volunteer that information, that's fine.)

Oooh, I don't like those very much. Too white, the Houses of Parliament look, wrong.
Oh, and not to be pedantic or anything, but the camera zooms off towards the south east, but it somehow ends up in the middle of the country! Terrible Wink
