1810: Archie Norman, former Tory MP for Tunbridge Wells turned chairman of ITV, doesn't seem to want the broadcaster to be associated with a Labour event being held at its Granada Studios tonight. The BBC's Jane Hill says he's decreed that no reference is made - verbal or visual - to his company, and the ITV sign is actually being removed from the front of the building.

That's a bit drastic, no?

I'm finding a complete recording of the 2005 broadcast hard to come by/

Not complete but there's a fair few hours on http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/186422-1.

Thanks for that (and for newsmonkey for the help with the studio monitors, I'd been wondering what 'ff' stood for on the graphics one.)

Incidentally it appears there was some sort of bomb scare outside TVC/in Wood Lane earlier tonight.

Also Richard Bacon did a brief interview/tour of the set with the BBC One producer as part of his 5 Live show earlier; he said their latest estimate was they'd be on air for around twenty hours (taking us through to 6pm as discussed) with the possibility of doing an extra programme or two (of unspecified length) over the weekend.

TC7 is normally used quite alot on Sundays (Andrew Marr & Politics Show), and I always got the impression that perhaps some others programmes for the NC were using it on Saturdays (Straight Talk, Hard Talk et al), and maybe some for World News which we don't see in the UK.

I thought it was the fact that Breakfast (assuming that's what Hyma is referring to) would be more costly to do from TC7 because it's easier to have news channel staff running output from the news channel's studio than to have a Breakfast team assembled to do a full production... kind of like scaling down a West End show into a Fringe venue theatre.

Even though AM/PS come from TC7 on Sundays, they do try and find ways to cut corners (see the set, for example) - again, I think the issue is more manpower than anything else, but happy to be corrected...

You're both right, Breakfast would be hard to do from TC7 on Sunday due to the shows, but even before that they used to take Weekend 24 rather than run breakfast and really that is what is still broadcast on weekends. IIRC didn't they still use N8 at weekends when Breakfast was in N6 with the first Barco set?

Press release about election night on Sky.

Apparently they will get the exit poll 10 minutes before 10pm but Adam Boulton has been asked not to be told until they unveil it live on air.

Good idea, I doubt he would want to slip up and give anything away before 10pm.

Isn't it illegal to broadcast the result of 'exit polls/predictions' or anything other than just an estimate of the turnout whilst the polls are actually open?

Perhaps that's just the BBC rules, although I would imagine Ofcom enforce something similar for commercial channels.

It is definitely illegal to release exit polls before the polls close. One of the many election rules broadcasters have to follow.

Does the exit poll rule extend to online too - I guess the reputable polling organisations would be regulated in some way, but of course there is no way they can police unofficial polls on various forums etc.?

Also as we know the TV broadcasters have joined forces will there be any other exit polls released on Thursday night?

Yes it was/is still Weekend 24 in all but name, the only difference from regular News 24 was dropping the "24" from the logo.

Yes, it's the law and applies to absolutely any media. You are not allowed to broadcast anything that's politically sensitive or might influence the vote while polls are still open. As soon as it's 10pm then they can say what they like - within reason of course.

Of course with postal voting the same applies - a Labour candidate Kerry McCarthy - their twitter tsar no less got into hot water after publishing some details about some postal votes that had been submitted. As she was talking about polling and might influence what else people do either with their postal vote or on polling day then this falls into the same category.

Expect lots of "Sunny weather has brought out the voters" / "Gloomy weather hasn't stopped voters..." from 7am on Thursday.

Gordon will probably mess that up as well.

So will there be enough space and resources at BH for this type of event, or will a TC1-type studio still need to be used, if anything, to house all the workers?

In the seventies and eighties, all the current affairs shows used to come from Lime Grove, and they were responsible for the election coverage, but they still did election night at TV Centre. Lime Grove was an absolute dump, mind.

Really find it odd why ITN don't call on the services of Jon Snow and Krishnan Guru-Murthy for the ITV coverage, it'd give them an ideal Paxman team to deal with the in depth issues. They really shouldn't be silenced tomorrow night.

With Breakfast on Friday being shown on BBC HD, will we be getting HD Titles and graphics for this?
