RTÉ do though cover UK general elections though - normally a Prime Time special on election night for an hour or two and then a programme in the following afternoon to cover the NI results (which are all that RTÉ are really interested in). Since the NI count is overnight this year RTÉ will probably revise these arrangements and do a longer programme on election night (or possibly simulcast BBC Northern Ireland's coverage).

RTÉ used the BBC Sport studio at TV Centre for their UK General Election coverage last time. Suspect they may do again.

Why do RTE need to be in London though. Even though of course Westminster and Downing Street is the prize, the action doesn't happen in the studio but on the various OB's, so could just as easily be done from Ireland.

Let's face it though - ITV could announce the end of the world and even though everything has collapsed around them, many people wouldn't believe it until the BBC confirm it for them.

My feelings exactly.

What a lot of rubbish.

Which channel gets the most viewers for general election night result programmes ?
It seems the BBC always win the election night ratings, has there ever been a time when ITV have beaten them ?

If you're in the same building as the BBC you might just be able to grab a few more people for live interviews than you would in Dublin.

Quite interesting that. Although I get the impression that Sky News are offering it to everyone else because they are the smaller channel of the three, and any promotion for the channel is good.

The BBC's Election set has started construction in TC1 .... and it's BIG!

Can you tell us anymore about it?

I think they're doing remarkably well with that 'cramped set'. It's in use for about 4 hours some days during the election campaign in various guises.

I agree, fantastic theme. I think the special versions are just 'light mixes' as they seem to lack any percussion and drums? Who composed the theme by the way? I remember the original arrangement of the theme which was a lot more contemporary sounding with heavy drums if you remember back in the 2006ish era? Far prefer the current versions though, especially the minus drums mixes!

Surely a new studio at Millbank is long overdue! I doubt there is one in the pipeline, however.

It's really that horrible picture quality that makes it look worse.

And what an arrogant little man he seems to be. This isn't about "public service" at all, it's about empire building!
