Nice little promo for the BBC's election coverage - short and simple, but quite effective I think:

Is all the CSO stuff up until election night filmed at ITN?

No, the Vine VR isn't being done at ITN this time, we're doing it ourselves at the BBC and agree it's not looking good. It has worked pretty well for the local elections coming from ITN for several years now and we can't understand why we didn't go back there to do the most important election of all as it was all tried and tested!

ITV may be using the studios themselves, and so the BBC has to make do. But why not work the VR stuff to be over-layed on top of the presenter, rather than behind and all around them.

I hope they can get a decent lighting grid setup, to avoid luma spill from the green. Blue would have been preferable from the spill pov, considering there are light grey and light blue tones in the virtual environment, but still...

Because ITN will be busy using themselves, at least on the night anyway.

I think there've got a virtual House of Commons along with all there other virtual stuff this time - so mabye that's why it's not avaliable for the BBC.

ITV News' Election coverage is being presented from one studio only - with contributions from the Newsroom.

Didn't they rig up the VR kit at Millbank one year?

If Wales and Scotland get their own programmes guess NI will too. But I guess BBC England coverage will be on the News Channel and/or Parliament

NI always have got their own programme - it just happened to be the next day (as that's when the count was) so it never clashed with the English coverage.

But yeah, I had forgotten about the BBC News Channel (which Chorus NTL still calls BBC News 24!). So that's an option!

It doesn't matter on satellite, as all of the regions and nations are on the EPG, but it would be nice if they used BBC One, BBC News, BBC Parliament and the one interactive stream on Freeview to give all 4 national programmes. It would require regionalisation of the channels.

Have to say, I'm really enjoying the Campaign Show on BBC News...Jon Sopel is his usual excellent self, and there is a pretty good flow to it all. Looking forward to the hour-long Daily Politics and their special debate shows. Not caught Randall and Boulton yet; and currently watching the Boulton Factor for the first time this campaign...I realise its still early in the show, but it seems to have lost some of the 'oomph' that I remember in the 2005 election.

With only 18 seats to decide between in Northern Ireland, perhaps BBC NI and UTV will only dip in and out of the main coverage as the night progresses?

All Northern Ireland seats are counted and declared the day after polling; so during Election Night, they get the same programme as Network. Opt-outs on BBC NI/UTV, if they bother with them, are generally full of tales of local paper exit polls, bomb scares at polling stations (which still happen) etc. in lieu of any local results. ISTR in elections past NI viewers often just got the London/SE round-up with no local opt-out.

Mind you, I'd moved to England by the time of the last General Election - so perhaps more informed posters like marksi and his colleagues, Stevie, Neil, Gav etc. can give a more accurate account of what really happened in 2005 and what may be in store this time around.
