Votes in Northern Ireland are for the first time going to be counted overnight.

Does this mean NI viewers will lose the national count coverage from BBC and ITN???? Given that NI voters don't vote for Great Britain political parties (UCUNF nothwithstanding) I suppose it is only right that BBC NI and UTV should do their own thing but for many political anoraks (and there are no shortage of them on this side of the Irish Sea) loosing the UK-wide election night - at least for people who don't have Sky Digital - will be disappointing.

Oh well, Sky News it is then I suppose...

If Wales and Scotland get their own programmes guess NI will too. But I guess BBC England coverage will be on the News Channel and/or Parliament

'Election Night Special', it says here.

(I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of Armando Iannucci's Election Night Armistice, but with more Charlie Brooker)

It's this:

The Alternative Election Night will be a four hour live special presented by and featuring much of Channel 4’s key talent. The aim of the show is to be funny, revealing and intelligent with the viewer taking away real insight and analysis as well as being thoroughly entertained.

About time they did something like this. Loving the E4 Party Political Broadcast that began tonight - "fixing Broken Britain so we can break it again!"

Off topic but Charlie Brooker's C4 show is back next Thursday.

Newsnight are using what appears to be a 10 foot tall plasma touchscreen in N9.

I didn't know they even made plasma screens that big...

Yes it was used as a touchscreen for the US Elections in 08 and last years Local Elections.

Are you sure the Sunrise screen is touch-sreen? I don't think it is! The screen has only ever been used since the Sunrise relaunch as far as I know?

What is with political editors shouting questions at Brown when they know he can't or won't answer the questions. Seems like just a bit of self-promotion.

Sounds like a good idea actually. Despite the serious election programmes being incredibly fascinating, they can get a little tedious after a while.

Seems like the main networks are putting a lot of effort into this election. They've clearly seen how it worked over in the US with Obama.

It was used for the European election coverage last year and is definitely touch screen, just not used to that effect during Sunrise
