"Campaigning" is what political parties do, not impartial news broadcasters.

I remember a fruitless campaign that was thrust down our throats endlessly to get TV debates at elections. Took what seemed a year and a day to reach 100k signatures.

Sky News is launching a campaign to make leaders' TV debates a permanent election fixture. Sir @nick_clegg and @AmberRuddHR are backing it after party leaders avoided going head-to-head in 2015 and 2017 #MakeDebatesHappen

Here's another one:-

Let's be real though, the second one was a Sky Ocean Rescue campaign, nothing to do with Sky News beyond being shared by the Head of Sky News on Twitter... hardly "campaigning" by a news broadcaster.

And hours of on screen coverage. No thing wrong with it. Just pointing out that Sky News do campaigning.

I’m already exhausted with GB News and it hasn’t even started yet. I’ve never been an Andrew Neil fan. A privately educated OAP with a penchant for emulating the Berlusconi look isn’t my thing. However, I can still see why some are giving the channel a degree of cautious optimism, with his journalistic pedigree behind it. The problem now is that his social media behaviour is border line Trumpian. The financial backers will have supported this because they believed a character like Neil would add a certain weight and credibility behind it. If he gradually transforms into an old shouty man, it won’t end well. I almost feel sorry for him. The moment I saw that Grimes boy tweeting endless support for the channel my heart sank a little. It’s all just a bit cringey now.

I know people are asking us to be objective about this channel, but even with the limited info we already have, it's hard not to make an early judgement.

Arrow The name 'GB News'. I'm sorry but this just immediately conjures up nationalistic images for me.
Arrow The fact it's not going to be a rolling news channel but have "news-based programmes". Presumably trying to be the TV version of LBC where impartiality actually means having people of various political leanings across the schedule.
Arrow Hiring Dan Wooton.

I'll give it a go. But I'm a bit disappointed we're going to get this and not NBC Sky World News.

It's also an interesting time since if it had launched earlier, presumably Brexit and Trump would have made watching it insufferable dominated the on-air discussion somewhat.

I want to see more of their presenters hired before I judge the channel, however if they are all in the style of Dan Wootton, then I will be avoiding the channel for the most part, as Dan is a revolting man, a true hypocrite. No surprise GB News hired him, he worked for the Murdoch brand for years, a brand Andrew Neil knows very well indeed.

If this means Jedward are getting a show, maybe it’s not going to be all bad.

They are courting a particular audience, those who constantly complain about the BBC, or the "Mainstream Media"

The Alex Belfields and talkRADIO hosts of this world you mean? talkRADIO and Alex are the cheerleaders for anti BBC nonsense they spew out.

talkRADIO has a habit of throwing this bit of red meat to their trickle of fans every day, uploaded on YouTube, and just look at the comment sections of the endless "BBC must be defunded now" crap, not focusing on the fact the BBC has a Royal Charter in place until 31st December 2027, talkRADIO hosts always ignore that glaring fact.

Alex Belfield of course seethes with hatred for the BBC, and constantly moans about how they are finished. Well he has been saying that for years now, and the BBC is still here. He just loves to pick at them, he must have a lot of anger issues, and severe issues with the BBC who sacked him a few years back, an event he has never forgiven them for.

It would not surprise me one bit to find GB News hiring Alex Belfield, either as a contributor or possibly a host, along with a handful of talkRADIO hosts.

Despite multiple attempts by admin/mods to keep this thread on topic of presentation related matters it continues to head off-topic. When the channel launches or at least photos/video of the studio or similar presentation are published then by all means start a new topic for that. Announcements of reporter/presenter signings and comments by Andrew Neil are unlikely to warrant a new thread until then.
