For some time now, there has been talk about a challenger TV news channel to rival Sky and the BBC. Now it’s official: GB News will launch early next year – under the chairmanship of Andrew Neil, who will be its star presenter. He’ll be one of about a hundred journalists joining the new channel, which will be the most important television launch in Britain for a generation.
It’s unlikely to be a Sky-style rolling news channel – this format does well during major news events, it struggles on quieter news days. Besides Andrew, the management team will include Angelos Frangopoulos (ex-Sky Australia) John McAndrew (ex-Sky News) as Director of News and Programming. Whether they will be able to cope with the competition from Spectator TV, of course, is another matter entirely...
I've seen some of the shows he's been presenting for the Spectator on Youtube and they are great in terms of content if a bit dodgy technically. I'm sure it will be successful and will certainly be different.
It's great, a rival to news channels like BBC and Sky, oh but it isn't a news channel, and it won't give the government the blame, and it isn't Fox news, and it's a bit like LBC, and he will do four one hour shows in prime time.

It’s sad to see him leave the BBC. But when the BBC barely use him it makes little difference.
I hope we see the same Andrew Neil on GB News that we saw on the BBC and not one that becomes fiercely right wing.
I can't see him mutating into a right-wing fanatic. In my opinion he's one of the best journalists in the UK and will certainly give GB News a huge amount of authority.
I very much like Andrew Neil but he was deluded if he ever thought there would be a place for his weekly political shows in prime time, even on BBC2. It’s almost like he was looking for any reason to pick a fight with the BBC and move on. I do think he will lean more likely to right now he’s going from the BBC but it’s also highly unlikely that he’ll turn into a British Bill O’Reilly.
