The power cut in 2000?

There were a number of power cuts in recent history. I seem to remember the national news losing power half way through a bulletin and the emergency lighting coming on. There was of course also the bomb explosion which saw the whole of BBC News moved around due to part of the news centre being a crime scene and more recently there were a series of power "shortages" before the N24 relaunch. The Ten was moved to a CSO (which News 24 were meant to be using) and News 24 decamping to the World studio.

All the studio cameras dying during a Martyn Lewis 9 O'clock news when it came from the Newsroom in 1989.
A still came up at the end of a VT, Martyn explaining they had technical problems & would continue in sound only. Then the "snoop" camera was plugged through to the vision mixer and we saw a weird wide shot of the studio:

What's the snoop camera? I'm guessing it's so that the gallery can see the studio floor but that's a total guess

I thought Wogan actually started late as a result of the interruption to the news.

I'm sure you're right - I'd forgotten that detail. Well it was nearly 20 years ago, after all!!

Yeah - it's exactly that. Lots of regions use them to provide one of their webcam views on their websites along with the "window-on-the-world" camera feeds.

There was also the ocassion when one of the BBC Weekend bulletins had to end early due to a fire alarm sounding in the building. If I remember correctly, Jan Leeming was able to apologise to viewers, prior to the bulletin beng closed down.

This happened just a few weeks after the incident where Jan was mugged inside the BBC Newsroon and had ammonia sprayed in her face just twenty minutes before going on air. She was hastily replaced on the (Sunday Night) bulletin by Christopher Morris.

Not a funny moment, but I rememer it due to it's close proximity with the fire alarm incident. They were only days apart IIRC.

Always remember Susan "The Doily" Osman taking the overnight simularcasts from Westminster on the night BBC TVC was bombed. Everything was been manually outputted (no autocue, fading etc) and lots, if I remember correctly, of "umms" but maybe that's just Susan normaly, I'd not like to say...

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there also a black out during the 6 o'clock news during the red/cream era?

I notice the director thought the lesbian was a man. Who'd have thought it?

I guess you could include Nicky Campbell's unfortunate spoonerism of "East Kent Hunt" on Five Live, at a pinch.

That was brilliant - especially when a couple of weeks later they were talking about the incident in a tongue-in-cheek manner, and in doing so, he made exactly the same mistake again.

I've never been able to stand the man, so I enjoyed it tremendously.
