From Broadcast Now:

BSkyB chief operating officer Richard Freudenstein, one of the company's most influential executives, is to leave the company in the summer.

Freudenstein, who has been with Sky since 1999, has decided to return to his native Australia but has not announced his next move.

A Sky spokesman said Freudenstein would not be stepping back from the role in the run-up to his departure, and will be focusing on the launch of Sky's HD channels and "completing a number of significant rights negotiations".

In a statement, Freudenstein said: "James [Murdoch, Sky chief executive] and I decided to announce the move now to give us plenty of time to effect a seamless transition. While I am proud of having helped Sky reach its current heights, I'm entirely focused on important milestones ahead and am absolutely sure that the best at Sky is yet to come."
