I'm still not really sold on the rigid newswheel format. I can see this working well in the morning (especially because France's morning news game is a little weak), but I can't see how anyone would watch this at night versus the more dynamic news and debate combos on BFM, iTele, and France 24.

Oddly, I was watching Tele Matin this morning (on TV5 Europe) and I was thinking whilst shielding my eyes from the blizzard of white that passes for the set - that the FranceInfo: studio/newsroom would make a great backdrop set for the programme. You have a two sofa config in the middle of the area handy for William and the reporter to talk about the feature, they would be shooting into large and plentful windows, so during the show - you can actually see dawn breaking. 5 large plasmas parked around the place (so when it's really dark they can hide those windows for a while and run a looped backdrop on them.
Would really work. Admittedly, Franceinfo would have to find something to put out between 6.10 - 6.30am whilst the Tele Matin crew move in and set up - but I'm sure with the remote camera at Radio France, they could present the output from there.

That's an interesting idea, but from what I've seen of franceinfo, its format is very different from Télé Matin, which is a good thing. Télé Matin has news, but it's definitely a quirky show with all the press reviews, features, and all the informal chit chat with William Leymergie (who is a taste for which I will probably never acquire). Franceinfo appears to have a lot more news with a much faster pace – nothing too serious, nothing too light, nothing for very long – and I think that format could resonate for morning viewers who don't have a lot of time and are looking for something different.

I agree about the space being gorgeous though. I'm pretty sure it was the same space that France 2 used for all its newscasts until a year or so ago, and it looked totally different and great then.

Claire Chazal, who is now the anchor of the cultural bulletin "Entrée Libre" on France 5, is the second "guest-star" who has been invited to read the weather forecast on Franceinfo:. The first one, yesterday, was Vincent Ferniot, who presents the France 3 programme "Midi en France". Several other weather guest-stars are scheduled to appear in the next days.

Watching the Radio France studio bulletins, with the screen out of action, it appears the tablet also controls the camera angles. I suspect the presenter presets the angles between each bulletin?

Am I the only one who thinks that parts of the presentation are slightly messy and impractical? The titles are a bit cluttered looking for me, and while the headline text looks nice, it does disappear a little on light backdrops. The name strap for the presenters is barely noticeable, too.

The overall feel is modern and very slick (and a lot of is very pretty), but I can't help feeling it lacks a little.

There's also some back timing issues where there are quite noticeable gaps of around 2-5 seconds between the end of the link and VT on some links.

I agree about the name strap too. Another thought that springs to mind is if The Guardian launched a tv channel, it'd look very similar to this.

A week on and it appears Franceinfo has gone into 'normal' service with regards to staffing during weekends.

Last week, there was a presenter and bulletin reader. Today, it's the bulletin reader only with a 10 minute bulletin at x00 and x30, using only the robotic and fixed cameras, with pre-recorded filler and Radio France headlines.

The Radio France presenter no longer has a tablet and uses cue cards instead.

Don't understand French but completely see the connection. Interesting that the weather presenter appears to be a game show host / radio personality based on his twitter account. I don't know his education but atleast Schafernaker has a degree in meteorology.

Started in Kids TV, has presented French versions of Art Attack, lottery draws and Pointless as well as having been a Eurovision commentator.

I would assume he is fairly well known for these and therefore presenting the weather might be a gimmick akin to someone like Vernon Kay presenting the weather on BBC News. Although he did seem to take it somewhat seriously and do a decent job, you can tell he is not a natural by the way he points and got his direction wrong near the end.
