It seems a little excessive the numbers of reporters and presenters over in Paris at the moment, surely these times of budget cuts would mean broadcasters and producers coordinating to send across less correspondents especially BBC News.

Does anyone know how many presenters and reporters are in Paris from BBC News, Sky News, ITV News, Channel 4 News etc. etc... ?

From what I've seen, BBC News have Ben Brown, Tim Wilcox and Huw Edwards (nationals) on presenting duties. Their usual France/Paris correspondents Lucy Williamson and Hugh Schofield were already out there. They've also been joined by their Europe Editor Katya Adler and Damian Gramaticas.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Simon McCoy and/or Clive Myrie dispatched to relieve Tim and Ben if the coverage warrants it over the next 24/48 hours.

CNN have 6 anchors in Paris so far - I've seen Christiane Amanpour, John Burman, Chris Cuomo, Hala Gorani, Anderson Cooper and have just seen Erin Burnett.

Very well done to CNN, their coverage has been great! Amazing for an American network to send so many anchors in Paris. Just a shame about their enormous graphics

Meanwhile, NBC have anchors Erica Hill (Today) and Lester Holt (Nightly News) in Paris. It seems Savannah is now in Paris for tomorrows programme too, not too sure.

And Poppy Harlow who arrived yesterday, back on again at 7pm eastern. And also NewDay's Alisyn Camerota joins Chris Cuoma from tomorrow. VERY EXCESSIVE in the case of CNN

I wonder why they felt the need to cut to Jon at that point, unless they thought something was going to happen that they didn't want to broadcast?

They also have an obligation to ensure their presenters and crew were as safe as possible.

How would cutting away from something make the presenters and crew safer?

Err - by letting them concentrate on staying safe rather than distracting them by continuing to broadcast.

They were still staying safe while on air by following police orders and taking cover though. I'm sure if things got rough they'd just do what they'd have to do and not worry about being on air.

But never mind, let's not dwell on this.

That's easy to say in hindsight but in the moment you might not realise you're in danger, and do your best to stay on the air regardless. Sometimes you need someone like a director to point out the obvious and take the decision out of your hands.

Fair enough. I've watched the video back again and it was rather of silly of me to question why they'd cut away. I apologise for my misjudgment.

BBC Newsday continues as normal with Kasia and Mariko. Presenters swapped with London beginning and then to Singapore.

Another to add, Gordon Corera has also filed a report from Paris too.

It's a very big news story that means it will warrant location presentation on both the News Channel and BBC One. That will soak up a few producers and presenters.

Then you actually need, strangely, some journalists to actually go out and report and find out stuff, rather than just voicing over AP/PA wires in an edit in W1. You know actual journalism. Seems quite sensible to deploy your specialists in the areas that need investigating. And Paris is hardly difficult to get to - it's quicker to get to from London than some parts of the UK (and overnights and travel won't be that steep either)

(And grrr... Fewer, not less...)

CNN have gone overboard with despatching anchors. There really is no need to have sent 8 anchors to Paris.

Carole Costello, Wolf Blitzer, Kate Bouldan, Jake Tapper and Brooke Baldwin are the only main anchors left in the US.

Transport links between London and Paris are excellent with regular rail and plane services, along with the Eurotunnel and ferry links on the Kent coast, which makes travelling to Paris as easy as going to Manchester or Newcastle bar the passport/border checks.

As for the staffing, agree with others that the story warrants the resources over in Paris. Other world based PSB's will be doing exactly the same.

0030 repeat of The Papers on the NC. Hopefully Asia Business Report will be on at 0130.

I wonder if a repeat of the papers might become a permanent fixture, like on Sky News.

ABN is back and I'd assume Sport Today will return at 1.45.
