I wasn't arguing for increased coverage, just pointing out that I don't agree you can assume that the audience who will not have seen the news in a 12 hour period (8 of which many people will have been asleep for) aren't significant enough to be served by a BBC One bulletin.

Significant portions of UK society will not have watched or read a news outlet in the 2100-0915 window.

Having just checked - it appears there isn't a scheduled lunchtime bulletin in the EPG on BBC One at the moment, which feels like a mistake.

OK - lest this goes around in circles - I was making the comment in the context of replying to someone suggesting that BBC One should have stayed with the rolling news coverage rather than reverting to the normal schedule at 09:15.

That's all.

I of course accept that there would be people who didn't know about it, but not in sufficient numbers to warrant retaining the rolling news coverage on BBC One.

I would be pretty sure there will be a lunchtime bulletin - this would be far too big a story not to have an update.

At the end of the late morning news on ITV, Jonathan Hill (who was due to present tonight, but I presume won't be now, hence doing a daytime update) said there would be news specials just after 1745 and 2145 (the latter already posted a few pages ago). I presume regional news is either dropped or will just be a very brief update

The BBC News Channel seems to have dropped all of its back half hour programmes for the rest of the day.

What news channel did most the world station take during yesterday?

Following is for ref:
Just to point out with the ITV regional news, Between 17.45 and 18.00 there is alot of promos and very little or no adverts. The regional news is also around 6mins long, so it ITN news special could be on for 25mins have the local news and then go straight into Catchphrase around 18.17.

If I understand your question correctly (not convinced I do), a lot of outlets were taking BFM TV, France's most watched news channel which has a reputation quite similar to the more negative things Sky News is sometimes accused of.

My EPG has now updated with ITV News 1745-1810 then 5 minute slot for the regional news 1810-1815

Poor week for ITV. Can't believe they're showing Jackpot 247 when such an event is unfolding - no wonder they struggle to get ITV News taken seriously.

France 24 doing a superb job - always rated Mark Owen when he was at Granada. Great interview with an eyewitness from the Bataclan just now.

Have to agree, huge News story even if it is this late and itv NEWS not on air even when normal programming has finished. Very poor.

Rubbish. ITV really are not equipped to be doing this sort of coverage during the day never mind at 1:30am. The only channels that are rolling are those that would have been rolling anyway.

ITV were on air at 10pm and out performing their rivals - they could easily have stayed on air. Reporters will have been observing the story unfold anyway for the weekend bulletins and coverage on all channels was little more than a presenter, guest and incoming pictures (with restrictions due to requests of French police) anyway. Julie Etchingham could easily have handled another hour or so on air after News at Ten, and even with them going to the football I'd have thought ITN would have kept her (or someone) around knowing the story was likely to develop in the event they returned to air after the highlights, as they clearly should have done considering how the story tragically developed between 11.30pm and midnight.

As the leading commercial PSB ITV should be covering stories like this. This wasn't an event of questionable importance where it was a 50/50 call - it was something that very quickly was unfolding as one of the major events in Europe since WWII. As others have said ITN would have been ready - but nobody at ITV seems to care. A poor move at a time when they're trying to gain respect for News at Ten especially.

Looking through this thread it seems ITV haven't even done anything this morning - I can understand not competing at Breakfast but they could have put a 30-60 minute bulletin out from 9.25am. Once again Jeremy Kyle takes priority over events of great importance, with this arguably one of the most significant news stories of the last decade.
