FNC when they do rolling news has been on a par with CNN and MSNBC over the weekend and hasn't been as OTT as CNN were on Sunday. Anchoring from a middle of the storm is just nonsensical while FNC had Shep sensibly in NYC linking between the reporters on the ground.

They messed up by now updating the whole thing. I doubt they would have changed the FOX part as it fits with the studio and the network. But the rest certainly could have changed. Likely the freshening and brightening will usher in the new newsroom.

As far as storm coverage goes. The ratings monster is usually The Weather Channel, they usually taking the top spot....usually.. So it didnt really what CNN/MSNBC/FNC did. Though surely they all got a bump in ratings.

Hopefully there will be a decent LIVE bug. It's never clear nowadays when you switch on if a report is live or recorded, as it's embedded into the Fox News logo. But then that spins, so you have to wait for it to turn to see if it says LIVE or not.

And according to the article it will continue to do that.
Quote:
“For added value, the logo bug contains a sleek intro and outro animation that draws the eye to it when it comes in and out of any commercial break. Also “network” will continue to revolve with “clock” and “live” within the red bar of the logo,” Amato explained.

Ah, I missed that when scanning the article, many thanks.

Well the new look has premiered. The live bug doesnt spin. Its more like a flipper rather than rotating as the article stated. It is a cleaner look. They havent changed the program graphics themselves. So the background graphics and the programme introductions are still so far the same. it is a cleaner look. The FNC logo animates and "deconstructs" as the programme goes to an advert break.

The more I look at it..... i hate to say.... the more I like, within context. Its certainly waaaay better than the previous package. I think its animates very nicely. And its cleaner but still FNC. If that makes sense. Currently there is no scrolling banner. They actually drop the lower third to just the programme title which sometimes changes to just show the identify of the person speaking. I hate the font they use and i think the location/time identifier in the upper left corner is too big and could be smaller. The programme graphics (intro/backgrounds) are still garbage, but for FNC its pretty darn good. Though not perfect. Cant believe Im saying anything positive about FNCs graphics. Geez.

Remember only for a few minutes with volume on mute.

New look is horrid. The new flat DOG is not very nice at all. I know all you want flat graphics on here, but these are a step back!

Least it makes you guys happy on here, you know the ones who hate the channel and don't watch it anyway. Very Happy

I just think it's about time the graphics entered this millennium.

Flashy 3D graphics are all well and good, but ultimately unless it aids telling a story, or makes for something distinctive and different, it's all show and no dough. Graphics are there to do a job, first and foremost. Often flat, simple graphics do the job best.

Newscaststudio has an updated story about why the ticker is there and when its there.

And how it looks different and why. Interesting use. Also I think because Most of the news channels have little "COMING UP' or "AWAITING" a live event boxes now. And CNN, CNNi, MSNBC now regularly use it. FNC came up with a neat little way to tuck it down so its not another box stacked on top of the lower third. Though I have yet to see it in use. They did use it earlier for a phone call. The entire lower third shrank over to the left to give the box some room.
Here it was used with an animated phone graphic. Of course this video was on regular rotation on the channel every few minutes in and out of a break. They love to show the "ethnic" people, in a relatively minor incident, doing bad things, because it fits their narrative of complete law and disorder. Any whoo.....

The bright blue of the bug does contrast pretty poorly with the shininess around it, in my opinion. I would've preferred had they gone for more of a Sky News type design. Still slick and shiny but not OTT.

It feels like Fox has finally caught up with the rest of the news channels and outlets with these graphics. It makes it feel more like a news channel, if that doesn't sound too wrong.
