This mess just gets better and better. Wow. So Ailes had something called The Black Room with secret employees and undercover agents and lawyers. Sicko.

And the New York magazine publishes and article about a current on air host who accused Ailes and others of harassment.

Brian Stelter the current CNN Media Critic and former NewYorkTimes Media writer and TVNewer.com creator says that FOX sent a spy to actually date him 10yrs ago.
Quote:
BRIAN STELTER: In terms of the money, this is Gabriel Sherman's reporting in New York magazine. He's been a leader on this story, wrote a book about Roger Ailes a number of years ago. A lot of what he's reporting I think reporters have suspected for a while. I'll give you an example. About ten years ago I had a crush on a woman at Fox News. She was a low level staffer. I was in college at the time. So I was going out on what I thought were dates. Chris, I thought these were dates. These were not dates. She was actually reporting back to Fox News about me. She was reporting back about what I thought of her and about CNN and MSNBC and Fox. Because I was a reporter on the beat, they were actually spying on me that way. Now I didn't think that was a big deal at the time. I thought it was the way Fox operates. Fox is a political organization. But now we know they were actually sending out private investigators. They were tailing other reporters.

BILL CARTER: They were following reporters around. We knew covering Fox you'd have to deal with that. You'd get a call from them saying, "You better be right on this story" or the implication was, "We'll dig into your past, we'll dig into your private life."

STELTER: So we sort of knew but now we know much much more. Because these reports, like from Gabriel Sherman, saying that money, that Ailes was using Fox News money, for his own private spending.

Oh now it gets kooky. The Hollywood Reporter is now saying there is speculation that FOX will try to poach Jeff Zucker from CNN. Let em have him, I say.

Interesting read about the power struggle inside 21 Century Fox and why they are still pursuing the rest of Sky. And consolidate all the Sky operations in Europe.

Going back to earlier in this thread and the demographic challenges faced by Fox News, this article goes into it quite well: http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/08/the-twilight-of-fox-news/497684/

That was indeed an interesting read. It made me consider the prospect of Fox News becoming Sky News eventually, once all the Sky operations are consolidated in Europe.

They won't change the name of Fox News to Sky News - the Sky name isn't well known in the US. It's editorial direction could change though.

I dont think they would ever drop the FOX moniker. It just has too much cachet in the US. Beginning with 20th Century Fox being founded in 1935! (Now 21st Century Fox). So the Fox name isnt going anywhere. I suspect you might see a gentle softening. But the channel will remain the same IMO. If 21CenturyFox hasnt already bought the remainder of SkyNews Australia you might see that disaster of a channel renamed and relaunched. But I dont think FNC is going anywhere.

No, there's no chance of the Sky name replacing Fox, not only isn't it known there but it's not a great brand for what is primarily cable channel!

Though it does depend on what happens with the current goings on. If, as I have heard suggested, it is bigger than phone hacking and the Fox name is potentially damaged then it would be the news channel that get a new name to protect the rest of the network. I don't think that will happen though.

I wouldn't be so sure that it's 'not going anywhere'. In the long term if it stays as it is now, it is doomed. But then that is true of a lot of traditional media, if it doesnt change it will get overtaken by the times

Fox News Channel will remain Fox News Channel. The name isnt going anywhere. Their viewers are the most ignorant and ill-informed viewers of any news channel and they will ignore this scandal and carry on watching as their arteries harden and muscles atrophy whilst their angry grip slowly loosens on the arms of their dusty LazyBoy recliners. Most of the people that watch this channel now will be dead in a few years anyway. They are so old and no one will remember.

They dont have a clue. Just like Gobbells had his propoganda swallowed, the same goes for this "news channel".

The rise of Fox News provided Murdoch with the political influence in the United States that he already wielded in Australia and the United Kingdom. And by merging news, politics, and entertainment in such an overt way, Ailes was able to personally shape the national conversation and political fortunes as no one ever had before. It is not a stretch to argue that Ailes is largely responsible for, among other things, the selling of the Iraq War, the Swift-boating of John Kerry, the rise of the tea party, the sticking power of a host of Clinton scandals, and the purported illegitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency.

IT HAS FINALLY BEEN PUBLISHED. A very powerful interesting read about the sexist culture at this "news" channel from Gabriel Sherman, the New York Magazine reporter that has been investigating FOX NEWS for years. Fox News hated him so much they had a "take down" squad monitoring him constantly. Gabriel has been tireless in reporting this story for years and penned an book about Ailes in 2014.
