Fox News announced yesterday that Megyn Kelly is officially joining their Primetime schedule when she returns from maternity leave in the Autumn. But to complicated things, it looks like the current prime time hosts Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta Van Susteren are all staying in prime time (which TVNewser says is 'technically' between 8-11) and have all just signed new long-term contracts.

The suggestion for most of this year had been that Greta might move to an earlier slot to make way for Megyn's programme, but Greta blogged yesterday/today:



So unless Megyn co-hosts with Sean or Greta, the programmes are no longer one-hour in length, one of them moves to an earlier timeslot (out of 'prime time') or to the weekend, it's not clear where Megyn's new show will go.


This is all significant considering the very stable schedule at Fox News, especially at Primetime. Fox usually outperforms CNN and MSNBC combined in total viewers throughout the day and is often one of the most watched cable channels overall - not just in news channels. So these kind of changes are unusual.

But Megyn Kelly has been the rising star at Fox News for some time, and it's presumably a key part in her career future and Fox News' long-term success.

I haven't seen it reported anywhere who will take over/ replace Megyn in her two-hour 'America Live' slot, which she left today.

I thought Fox News' primetime starts at 7pm with The Fox Report?

TVNewser describe this bit as 'News prime' - important and significant to have (the likes of Shep Smith and Bret Baier are some of the most senior anchors there) but that contractually primetime is 8-11.

That said, I can imagine them moving Greta or Megyn to an 11pm Eastern Time slot, meaning it would still be 'prime time' in Mountain Time and on the West Coast, and not too far off on the East, and just move the repeats back by an hour.

I think Megyn will get Greta's slot, with Greta either getting a rejigged contract or being allowed to leave the network. Have been some musings that she recently reached out to CNN,

While her show clearly has certain agendas and leanings, Megyn Kelly isn't anywhere near as partisan in a political sense as other prime time (and day time) hosts on Fox News. Will be interesting to see if that remains the case when she returns in the Autumn.

Interesting that she will be back on her old network, but I hope she will not be put to HLN because of her sensationalism with issues like Jody Arias and such.


Her political leaning is obvious when I saw her shows before, but I guess she is just keeping it tame because she is presenting a serious newscast in the afternoon... My gut feeling, she will go all out when she starts on primetime.

To be honest, Matt Drudge tends to overhype things to such a degree that you take everything from him with a massive pile of salt.

He is now saying she will have the 9pm slot.

If this is true, then Sean Hannity is the one who is the one who is moving somehow, maybe to weekends, as he did a weekend version of his show, when his weekday 9pm show was Hannity & Colmes.
