Probably happen a few times in the next couple of weeks - tonight four of the five terrestrial broadcasters are screening their news at 7pm, with both the BBC News and ITV News bulletins being moved for World Cup football.

RANT ALERT:
It's been a couple of years since my last rant about these but GENERAL THREADS in this forum especially are getting annoying!

They work brilliantly for day to day news, but alot of major developments are being lost in them.

The U-turns of Sky News are the most obvious example, stuck somewhere in a 200 page thread started at the time of the revamp, while the rebranding of News 24 to BBC News is hidden in the middle of a vague "BBC News continuity" thread.

On behalf of me, and any great minds which think a like Laughing can we have a bit of common sense here again and consideration for members who are not neccesarily interested in the everyday activities, but would like to discuss the bigger changes.

Who said variety's dead?! Laughing

Reminds of when BBC and ITV both had regular weekday news sheduled at 10pm, a year or three back. Rolling Eyes

PS I agree with your rant! Cool

IIRC 'the newsroom' sub-forum was created to put a stop to general threads? Well if anything, it's increased the number of general threads!

But isn't this a general thread, I don't know whether to comment on the 7pm thing or on the forum.

Surely the rant would have been better in a thread of its own ? Confused

just so long as ITV News Presenter Rotas stay in their own generic pit where I never have to see them I'm not bothered how anything else is organised.

Well the only reason there are 4 bulletins on at the same time is obviously due to the World Cup. In a months time everything will be back to normal so there is no point complaining.

Although there was no reason really to have the ITV News at 7pm.

I agree with that statement, though I don't think others do, I've never heard so many people who've whinged and complained of the fact that Emmerdale is on at 10.00pm for the duration of the World Cup. Though 7.00pm was a News junkie's paradise, though I feel sorry for people who only have access to Analogue Terrestrial, they seem to have had no choice at 7.00pm.

Though this is a smart move by ITV and tonight should have worked considering the fact that ITV Regional News was on at 6.30pm with no competition from BBC Regional News, thus really people expecting to see the BBC Regional News might have had to switch to ITV instead...?

One thing I've noticed is that Reporting Scotland is still going out at 6.30pm, but on BBC2. And they still have another bulletin at 7.15pm.

Bet ITV are loving this - for once no negative stories about the news being moved around a'la the news at when fiasco.
