The area is around the 3 way split between BBC Midlands/West/South (Oxford opt) and ITV1 Central West/West/Thames Valley isn't it?
Gloucester is Points West.
debatable really - editorially midlands today cover norther glos, usually sharing reports with points west. transmitter wise people in cheltenham and gloucester get pictures from ridge hill = bbc midlands

http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/ridgehill/map.shtml

as opposed to mendip = bbc west
http://tx.mb21.co.uk/gallery/mendip/maps.shtml

also - thinking back - remember when gloucester rugby were in some sort of final against a club from the south west, bbc midlands, bbc west and bbc south west all opted out of grandstand to cover it.[/quote

Actually, Gloucester and Cheltenham receive Points West (not Midlands Today) by cable and satellite as the designated BBC region, and there are people in certain parts of Gloucester that can get a good Mendip signal. ITV West have shown the way forward, by broadcasting from Ridge Hill, and the BBC have committed to do the same by broadcasting Points West from there on digital switchover. People in Gloucester have complained for years about having to receive a region they do not relate to, so it is good to see this being sorted out, albeit slowly.

Post DSO Ridge Hill has been allocated a 'West' PSB mux, in addition to the Midlands ones, look under the West heading here:-

That would mean that Ridge Hill could carry BBC 1 and ITV 1 West (presumably both at 12 Mb/s each Very Happy )

Yes - Thanks. That was what I was referring to. The BBC made their connittment clear about BBC West from Ridge Hill on DSO a couple of years ago when responding to another round of complaints about getting Midlands Today in the local evening newspaper here in Gloucester.

There is an Editor's Blog about the BBC's coverage of the floods here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/2007/07/extreme_weather.html#commentsanchor

The usage of the words 'Practice Run' to describe the Yorkshire floods 4 weeks ago is perhaps not the best way to describe it and has generated a lot of annoyance in the comments bit

surprised no-one has mentioned this - not very often two regional broadcasting legends come together on national tv

special programme tomorrow night going out nationally on bbc one starring the midland's very own nick owen with bbc yorkshire's answer to pamela anderson, christa ackroyd. i hope she mentions how she lent a flood stricken woman some lipstick ... again.

if only susan doily osman was still reigning over bbc west - they could have thrown her in too. seems odd to have nick representing this lot of floods - as it really is such an over lap with bbc west and south today north

How come nobody is representing Hull - The forgotten city from the BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region? Laughing

I bet that there will be reports from all the regions affected by the flooding, with the main parts of the programme being presented by Nick and Christa. I am sure Points West, Look North Hull, South Today and London will all get a look in on the programme.

That mention of Hull was too overconfident for my liking.

David Shukman live in the helicopter now recommending where to buy strawberries in Oxford when it's not flooded.

Is the special programme a national one? Looks to be on at the same time as BBC Hull's programme on Hull.

Not wishing to diminish in any way the appalling situation in the affected areas, but do we really need any more programmes showing water in people's homes, people being rescued in boats, and reporters standing in two feet of water, when quite honestly they could actually stand on dry land. As usual it's all overkill. As the Yorkshire floods demonstrated, as soon as something more exciting happens (failed car bombs) the story, and the crocodile tears shed for the victims is immediately dropped and forgotten about.
