And sorry but if Natasha has a script writer (not that tonight's was any special) Natasha really is a 'presenter' now as apposed to journalist!

You don't actually think the presenters write the words themselves do you? You ever heard of a programme editor? A chief sub? An output producer?

Anyway, I totally forgot about today's relaunch until 5:35! Will try to catch the later bully.

Surely the underlying problem with this all is not the set, the graphics, the presenter or any of that, but in fact the agenda of the programme? Where was the news? By all means, have this programme, but don't label it news and convince they're now clued up with the latest events happening in this world of ours.

As far as I was aware they did for programs such as the Ten O'Clock News - an interview/ tour online with Huw Edwards suggested show...

As I was saying to Bail...

the music is bad, the animations too fast, the text slightly too small, the graphics nice, and the incidental music during the exclusive report tacky

The news was ok, the main story was there (northern rock) and the exclusive, (whilst being very watchdog in style) was newsworthy.

It would be interesting to see how they do on a fuller news day

I actually really like the music... it's rather catchy!

Haven't yet seen the programme, but watching those titles just made me laugh out loud. It just feels like The Day Today - the resolve of the titles is far too fast, flashy and OTT - there is just way too much going on!! The music would be better without the 'bleeps' - what's with them? It sounds like a bad ringtone.

Heres the close, interestingly you can still see the camera at the very edges of the image, the endcap doesn't fully fill the frame.

That's probably just a blanking issue with the source of the key. Broadcast SD (and HD) is still engineered assuming that domestic displays (even HD LCD and Plasmas) have overscan - so you see the edge of picture on a PC capture, but not on most TVs (even brand new ones)

You see a multitude of sins at the extreme edges of frame...

I've heard of all of those - and chief writers etc. - and worked on shows where the presenter(s) DOES write, or rewrite, every word they read on-air. Some do, some don't...

Chief writers, chief subs etc. have a very important role - fact checking and grammar checking, and on very busy programmes writing decent scripts. However the best presenters I've worked with re-write so it sounds natural for them to read - using their own "voice".

Having a chief writer - to ensure consistency - is no bad thing, and doesn't remove Natasha's journalistic credibility - particularly if she DOES rewrite stuff herself to make it sound natural for her to read.

There is NOTHING worse than hearing a presenter read something when you know they didn't write it and know they'd never speak that way if they had...

I've just realised something about the music. Anybody getting a hint of the morse code in it? Laughing

I noticed the base of the camera in the frame on the bottom left at the end too - expected it to disappear.

Also, is that white box that appears some sort of modern day cue dot in the bottom left? what could that be used for? the weather? Any techies that could explain, perhaps?

The music is better than the last one. That one I hated. It was too quick, and very little tune.
I like the small text. Makes a nice change from all these captions in big capital letters which plauge the news channels these days.
If only the captions animated off screen instead of a unsure fade, they would be great.
I do like the 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' style glass floor though...
