I saw those clips on Page 1, and I got to say the news is downright tabloid and trashy! It sounded a verbatim copy of Today Tonight in Australia.

Now Natasha's going on MySpace - here's the press release
Quote:
Social network changes face of the TV news bulletin.
MySpace, the world’s largest social network, today announced an exclusive deal with the newly relaunched Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky. The announcement marks the first agreement to share content between a national news channel and a social networking site in the UK.
The pioneering partnership will include a daily co-branded news bulletin broadcast on MySpaceTV. The MySpace News Bulletin, presented by Natasha Kaplinksy, will be recorded each weekday after the 3pm update and posted online within two hours for MySpace users to view via the newly created Five News MySpaceTV channel: www.myspacetv.com/fivenews. The channel will also show three highlights from the day’s news and will be specially chosen to suit the MySpace audience.
This unique deal will also allow MySpace’s nine million unique monthly users to interact with the re-designed flagship news show by sharing favourite clips with friends and providing immediate feedback to the Five News team through ratings and comments on individual news items.
In the RTS nominated award section of the show, entitled ‘Your News’, the news gathering team at Five will use MySpace as part of their existing news gathering process, to source stories and invite users to upload their own news content for possible inclusion in the show. In addition, users will be able to rate clips on the MySpaceTV channel and upload comments, giving the Five News team instant feedback on what the 16-34 viewing public thinks.
The partnership with MySpace has been brokered as part of Five’s longer term digital strategy to forge deeper alliances with social networks. The launch has been planned to coincide with the recent re-launch of Five News online (www.five.tv/news) in February.
Director of Video and Head of Entertainment for MySpace, James Fabricant, comments: “The way we consume content and media is changing and this partnership allows us to bring bespoke news, created for MySpace users, directly to their desk tops. We’re delighted to be involved in the new look Five News and look forward to helping our users become part of Five’s ‘Your News’ section of the show.”
Your News is the part of Five News given over to the viewers every day. Since its launch last year, hundreds of videos made by viewers have been broadcast on Five News and on Five.tv/news. Subjects have included campaigns against school closures, personal stories of bravery against illness, and even one woman’s battle against prejudice for being too skinny.
Chris Shaw, Senior Programme Controller at Five, said: “I’m really delighted about our partnership with MySpace, which underscores our commitment to interacting with our viewers and reaching new audiences for news”.
James Birtles, Head of Newsgathering for Five News said: “Five News prides itself on innovation. The exclusive news update for MySpace presented by Natasha Kaplinsky is the first time a news provider and major social networking site have combined forces to deliver news to a whole new audience.”
Today’s announcement comes on the heels of MySpace’s deal with BBC Worldwide in January 2008, bringing short-form BBC content to MySpaceTV.
The Five News MySpace profile page can be viewed at: http://uk.myspace.com/fivenews from 11th March 2008.

This is taking the 'multi-platform content' BS to the extreme.
WHY!? I get my news on TV, on the radio, and from a newspaper. And if I use the Internet I go TO THE NEWS AGENCY'S WEB SITE. Not MySpaz. THE NEWS AGENCY'S WEB SITE. If I want to send in a story, I e-mail, telephone or write to them. I don't leave a comment saying
on a social networking site looking like an eleven year old's bedroom after a sleepover.

I'm just now trying to imagine how Five News will report stories on MySpace.
"MySpace user -x-charley-x- has sent us some pics of the Prime Minister, John Doe, in a rendezvous with foreign secretary Peter Brown... hmm.... saucy..."
And the Daily Wail headline the next day.

The problem that I have with this is not that they are going on a social-networking site, but the facts that it is MySpace - that site is
sssooooo
2006.
Anyway I thought gimmicks were out of 'fashion', a spottier version of Mr Boleto pretending to be Natasha on a Five News website sounds pretty gimmicky to me, sh!t I smell **** - pass me the Oust Mr Rothwell.

Completely agree - and it pisses me off too when content is put up on MySpace, Facebook etc. - but not on a programmes own website, which is the first place I would be looking for it.
And surely the more TV shows that launch MySpace pages etc., the more they're going to get lost in amongst all the MySpace users - and hence they're back to square one and might as well be lost in amongst the world wide web instead.
