There was a worrying piece in the paper suggesting the new-look Five News will be all about 'real life' stories.

I thought that was what the news had always been about!

All it means (i think) is a lessening of celebrity news stories, and a focus on "Human Interest" stories

In my experience 'real life' roughly equates to a lot more 'neighbours gone mad'/'out of control-where are the parents'/'hidden camera investigation' type stories..

Real life/human interest stories - as far as I'm concerned - mean stories that people can relate to, rather than ones that effect them.

Most people can't relate to, say, civil war in Africa. It's just too horrible for them to even contemplate so the more small minded people (five viewers?) turn off.

With that, the edit has been reverted. I'm surprised no-one spotted it sooner, but you know what they're like.

I'd imagine Five will promote the new look and new host quite heavily - even if telling people Kaplinsky's presenting isn't the best idea! Rolling Eyes

Sky never should have got the newsgathering contract for five's news output. Do you see what you've done now, eh? DO YOU?

However, it is channel 5 thmselves who have decided that they want the news to becme much more celebrity focussed- not Sky News
