Looks like the 7pm news is a full half hour from Monday, though it's only 15 minutes on Wednesday due to the cricket. 5.30pm is still there too.

This is from the Five News Daily Email which you can subscribe too, just read through it and i think its worth a copy and paste here as its a relevant one...

" Yes, yes, I'm back. I took a short break, a mere month in the south of France, today's my first day back and what do I find? The new editor, David, so quiet in the days before I left, now firmly in control, changing things to such an extent that he was interviewed on Newsnight, quoted in the Sunday Times and written about on the Media Guardian website.

He has banned all those out-of-date devices like reporters doing "noddies" after an interview, and ridiculous set-up walking shots. In other words, he has done the obvious and it looks as if the other news broadcasters will follow his lead. In fact he's just told me he had a call from one of his old BBC colleagues, saying: "You b*****d, you beat us to it". Don’t tell him, but someone (who'd better remain nameless) has named him The Quiet Revolutionary. (Could stick, that one.) To read David's blog about what's been banned and why click here.

To show you how ridiculous noddies are here's a true story about a highly venerable former ITN reporter who went to do an exclusive interview with King Hussein of Jordan in the 1970s. In those days we worked with film, so the reporter had no choice but to record his questions after the interview, then they would be edited in London. This vastly experienced reporter, having ushered the King out of the room after the interview, then recorded all the questions... facing the wrong way! And that was how it went out on News at Ten - King Hussein and the reporter both looking in the same direction. So good decision, David!

I have a new-look programme to tell you about. From tonight, the 7:00 bulletin - always a squeeze at 13 or 14 minutes - is now a full half hour every weeknight. We're trying our hardest to make it look different and to dish up the widest possible variety of stories. Don't believe me? Well, I am swotting up for one of the hardest interviews I have ever had to do in The Magic Numbers - Danny Clinch

my extremely long career. Apparently there is a pop group called The Magic Numbers (no, not your lottery ticket, a pop group), and they are coming on the programme. Ask me to interview Kurt Masur about his interpretation of Beethoven's Fifth - no problem. But The Magic Numbers? Actually, I am going to ask them what they think of that rapidly disintegrating singing star Amy Wineglass.

I am on much more familiar territory with naked women. In fact I can claim to have seen one or two in my lifetime. But 100? All taking their clothes off at the same time? It's true, it's true. Ruth Liptrot, who could not be persuaded to join them in the Big Strip, filmed the hair-raising (!) event. It's in a good cause, I assure you, and two of the brave women will be in the studio. Clothes on. You won't want to miss it, believe me.

Emily counting down the hours until 7pm The editor of the new Five News at Seven is none other than Emily Griffiths, who has featured in this email before. She became a programme editor only last year, I presented her first programme as editor and here she is launching the new 7:00. She's incredibly talented for one so young, and if you think this picture of her makes her look rather old and withered, that's because she’s just got married. When I left for my hols, senior programme editor Cait said she'd miss my "manic" emails. I'm back, Cait.

So join me at 5:30, and miss the new-look 7:00 at your peril.

Having had a couple of flicks to watch the new 7pm show, does anyone else think its trying sooo hard to compete with The One Show? Its really just like the 11.30 am Five news in the evening.

And another thing...it wouldn't be hard to guess that the new editor is a former editor of BBC Breakfast.... Laughing all this erm...fluffiness Wink

I always wondered what those emails were like and now I know . Just as well I can't subscribe as i might have felt more lenient to Five News in their current sky days, which is something try to resist.

So for the first time in years we have three 30-ish minute shows to enjoy on Five. Maybe they need more staff , more reports instead of filling it up with stuff like your news.

Still i will not desert them even if that bbc brekkie Mad bloke kermode is in control. It will take something much worse to prise me away from FN ( and i will not mention who that is ).

As for John and the magic numbers it didn't go very well did it , in fact they were cringing more than i was at the questions. Smile

I thought Asha Tanner's performance was fairly low tonight. Tripping over her lines and the foreign names throughout the news. Sad

She made up for it by showing some personality during her celeb interview with Adam Sandler on today's 11.30.

It wasn't just her personality she was showing to Sandler if those were her bits in the photos. Wink Smile Is Asha another reporter with dreams of Hollywood ?

So still no news on any new presenter I see. I know he's hardly high profile, but I'd love to see Martin Popplewell get the job. He's criminally underused on Sky, and he's familiar to long-term viewers of the show as he was on in the ITN days. I reckon Kay Burley is a possibility too, following her stint a few months back on the 5.30 show.

My money's on one of the ITV News presenters though - either Mary, Katie or Nina.

I think Mary would be mosre suited to the role. I don't know why, though.
Nina could be the new Evening News presenter... Cool

I expect them to go for a female news reader but would have thought that Katie and Mary have too many other commitments within ITV, (Five News have some pretty good news readers but I'm not a fan of their bulletins so I hope they keep their mitts off of Katie).

I expect them to go with someone from Sky News; I'm not sure that Mary or Nina have a sufficiently distinctive style to make a single-headed bulletin their own.
