I'll wait and see, but I do like the set, it's simple, it's not as newsy as other channels, but really just a progression of the last set with a small screen near the presenter, and a sofa, but it all looks lovely.
As for the new look five, it's something that was in the planning, but then with department and channel heads leaving, I think I read that it was put on the back burner for now.
From the short video I'm not a huge fan of the new set - one positive though is at least it has some kind of personality - I know that sounds weird, but it seems a lot of thought has been put into it witha good level of detail - just compare it to the BBC's N6 - granted, Five News' set may not be as easy on the eye as it could be, there are positives when compared to the BBC's grey floor, 3 video walls and desk dumped in the corner approach!!
But I'll wait and see how it looks on the screen at 5.
BBC wanted flexibility in thier studios though. Looking at the previews, I can't imagine programmes like Hard Talk woking at all in this space, yet they look pretty good in the BBC studios.
That screen though is ridiculously small - a bigger screen in the wall behind it would hardly have compromised the look.
And I hate the way producers now are claiming that viewers want people sitting down, don't want images on video walls etc. - rather than admitting the truth in that it's all about them saving money by not having them!
