They seem to be missing the point that the world really is this shít, and no amount of Puppies Licking Your Face (with Natasha Kaplinsky) can change that.

Bill Bailey is probably on a 5% commission every time that phrase is used.

Well I can't say I agree with Lewis Hide's comment (see the blog!!). Why shoot a promo about getting closer to the viewer and giving "warmer" stories in the most bleak studio environment you could find?

I wasn't expecting her running in a field of daises but given what we're being told about the programme's direction, that promo did nothing to help.

At the end of the day as others have pointed out, unfortunately most news viewers are already happily catered for with BBC/ITV/C4. I don't blame five for trying to be distinctive in a crowded market but hopefully there will be a good balance between the stories of the day and something like The One Show (a great programme in itself, but then it doesn't call itself a news programme).

How very cheesy.............."Hi I'm Natasha"....... it sounds so false!

Totally agree, Josh. There is no need for five to bring in this simpering, wimpering feel to its news output. After some periods of mediocrity, they managed (for a while) to get it just right. I am probably referring back to the days of Charlie Stayt and Rob Someone and the lady who's name I can never remember. (Not KY). But, this new look is all "a tad vulgar", if you don't mind me saying so.

James

Edit: Just remembered - it was Katie Ledger.

Five News used to have a reasonable team, Katie Ledger, Rob Butler, Charlie Stayt and Louisa Preston.

Charlie and Louisa are now of course with the BBC (Breakfast & London News respectively). I did once see Katie Ledger reporting for BBC Click, Rob seems to have disappeared into obscurity.

Katie Ledger also works with a company who help organisations put together conferences and events. She has hosted 2 such events for my company that I've been to, facilitating Q&A sessions between us (grafters) and the suits of my company.

she's really nice!!!!

I think he's on Film24 (Sky channel, not the news 24 programme) so you could say that!

Rob Butler was also involved in the comedy series 'Broken News', as one of the many newsreaders.

The thing that I hate about news shows with names is when the named presenter is not there, they still have the name built into the programme.

That is irritating. In the US it's understandable, because the newsreader is part of the show's 'brand'. A bit like Trevor McDonald and News at Ten . But here it is more inexcusable as the links between the show and the presenter are more tenuous.

Five are now using a CSO for their bulletins and it looks awful, thank god it is only for a week.

Have they recreated the presenter shot, or the whole of the set?
I suppose they could recreate the whole of the set - although it would look a mess!
