This relaunch is fast becoming the most strangest ever.

The Daily Mail is reporting Natasha is 'unhappy' at having to present the news in jeans, and is worried that after building up a 'successful' image, its going to be ruined when she is on screen in a layed back style.

Also, a VERY worrying quote:
Quote:
In addition to more casually dressed presenters, there will be a "more domestic" set, similar to daytime talk shows such as Richard & Judy

Less worrying, but more about the set:
Quote:
Mr Shaw said the new newsroom would be "warm and friendly", adding: "We've got a virtual ban on gizmos. People know what a 40in plasma TV looks like, we don't need to show them.

The programme will look more like a daytime programme than a formal news bulletin. Executives have yet to make the all-important decision of whether or not Miss Kaplinsky will sit or stand, but Mr Shaw did reveal: "Natasha won't be sitting on a sofa"

Sounds like they're looking to compete with Paul O'Grady more than Live at Five!

Will Natasha be presenting with her dog?

I smell failure, people surely don't want their news delivered to them by some strange chat show/news bulletin hybrid do they? I understand the production team's want for innovation and with memories of standup news in the halcyon days of five still very clear in their minds they're still aiming that way but there's innovative and stupid. You don't mix something that is fast moving and slightly edgy with something that's not like... oh, I dunno, setting a light daytime chat show in a seedy BDSM club for instance.

Meh, I'll be intrigued to see what comes out after this but expect a lot more than just the usual suspects to pan this new means of presenting "news".

At least the bulletins will be unique from the other stations. It may work, as well as the important news is still top of the agenda, and the facts are still explored well.

Relaxed.....informal....sofa? Confused

I wouldn't want to feel as though Natasha had just popped round for a cuppa and a chat about world events for 30 minutes. If this is the way they are heading with Five News then I suspect it's destined to fail unless they are aiming for the Newsround audience.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised (in a good way!). After all...press articles are there to arouse speculation etc. Just wait till the 18th of Feb. I honestly think it will be a much better Five News to the one we have now. R

Think you could be right judging from the odd noises coming from Fives 'mates' the Mail . All i've heard so far is hair content and costumes and precious little about the news content ! FFS
I'll watch to see how the others get on with the new format after presenting the old old type show for three years.

So it's launching a week later than Neighbours? That seems rather stupid, especially as it'll move to 5pm the week before.

God though, if the creator of 5 News could see what was happening now he'd be spinning in his grave, if he was dead!!!

With every revamp a little bit more of it's original identity is lost - and what made 5 News a success in the first place has now been completely forgotten.

News on sofas doesn't look good - remember BBC3 anyone?

EDIT: Actually no bulletin at 5pm or 5.30pm w/c11th Feb - and also the lunchtime edition moves to 12.30pm and is slashed to 15 minutes.

I think news executives really have to ask themselves this question when thinking about design and style of bulletins and set furnishings:

Will this be appropriate in the event of a lead story being a tragic terrorist attack/premature death/worst case scenario newsday?

That's the only test that matters- if they can answer "yes" and still have a different feel from other bulletins they could be onto a winner.

Wasn't that the same Chris Shaw who is quoted and now works for Five rather than ITN (where Five News originated?)
