According to Atticus in todays Sunday Times, Five News will from next month be branded as
Five News with Natasha
Not even her second name in the titles!
Sounds dreadful - like we're all off to have tea with Natasha whilst she tells us the day's stories.
Far too personal, and perhaps another indication of Sky News' obsession with names?
Pardon me, but I really like it. There's something very youthful (not in a Newsround sorta way), you gotta bitta vitality in there to which is nice to see. Its fresh and its different, which is what Five News was always about. It'll be effective for the audience they are aiming for.
You people seem to be forgetting that in the next 5yrs or so television news will have to make a big decision. How to combat the internet. Now, in many cases your seeing the attempted (albeit irritating at times) integration of the web into our news programs, especially the 24hr newsies with their (send your views). I for one hope that we can keep the existing elements of tv news in such a world. There is something very special about sitting down and hearing about the world from a person in a box and not a load of words on a webpage or views in a forum.
If 'Five News with Natasha' gets peole sitting in front of the box to hear and see the days events and happenings then yes, I'm all for it. I won't be watching though. Can't stand that damn lady.
It's all about the target audience that they are aiming for. I mean what type of news program has a film review in it? Five News does.
@ AJ. Names are an obsession for a reason; i.e. they work. Don't know where you've got the Sky News thing from either. Five are largely editorially separate as last years noddy ban showed.

How about sticking to reporting the news instead of an imitation of Afternoon Live.
Instead of making smug quips maybe you would care to watch the program which you criticise instead of taking the views of certain Beeboids on this forum as gospel?
If you watch afternoon live you'll son see that Kay's 'headline interviews' are merely just regular interivews given more time in the back half hour. For example today they had a body language expert on for the USA Primaries.
Your presence in the sky news thread would always be welcome.
Chris Shaw, senior programme controller at Five, said: “As one of the country's leading news presenters
Natasha has proved she has real authority
, and with her BBC One shows she also demonstrated her warmth and star quality. I believe at Five we can bring all those qualities together in a new kind of news programme."
I wonder what he's been smoking to come out and say that
Chris Shaw continues the train of deluded programme makers and controllers who think this person and a new style is going to do their news and the channel a bit of good.
Natasha Kaplinksy, pictured, arrived at Five News last week with some trepidation. Kaplinsky was lured from the BBC by Jay Hunt during Hunt's brief tenure as Five's director of programmes, but the woman who hired her returned to the Beeb as controller of BBC1 before Kaplinsky had set foot in the door. She need not worry, however; Five bosses are planning to rename the channel's evening bulletin, produced by Sky News, as Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky, and she is currently being reinvented for the role, with a top secret new hairstyle planned for next month's launch. Watch this space.
I suppose it's all a bit reminiscent of when Andrea Catherwood went to 5 - the idents in the few weeks prior featured her sitting on various types of chairs, building up a "will she or won't she be sitting?" type of thing. All a bit tacky but the end product was respectable enough.
Surely we'll be seeing some sort of promotion soon if she starts on 11th February. Maybe there'll be promos featuring her with different hairstyles?
Oh thank God.
Five News with Natasha Kaplinsky
is way, way better than
Five News with Natasha
. Although I fail to see how a hairstyle will improve the bulletin's fortunes.
