It says he'll join as a presenter/ correspondent - does that mean he won't anchor it? And it doesn't say he's taking over from Kirsty Young - so is Suchet taking over as main presenter?
well it was reported in the press that Young would be leaving in the Autumn so kinda putting two and two together.
it was also reported that five were after nightingale or another high profile female presenter to fill the Young void.
I really do think that the studio could do with a new look...think Barbett would suit something from the old school of five news studios...but how would that work with Suchet...anyway its all speculation at this stage what they will do
I think I'm right in saying they've not had a news set last 3 years yet have they? So it's not unrealistic for them to change it, more expected, as they tended to get a new set when there is a change in the main presenting line up (Kirsty Young left/ returned etc.)
Hopefully Matt will bring some kind of sanity and gravitas to
Five News
. And the current look is horrible, so it'll be good to see it go.
Have to admit, do like Matt.
As for the current Five News, whenever I watch the 5.30 bulletin, I always feel at the end, that I've not really had a comprehensive round up of whats happened that day - I'm sort of left wanting more news! Whilst the 11.30 show is becoming more and more magazine like...and the news covered is often the consumer/human interest stuff a la GMTV - saying that, though it is quite watchable IMO
Can't see it changing too much tho, considering that it is now edited by former the BBC breakfast editor David Kermode
Five have lost that knack of hiring good or promising presenters, can't Sky pull the presenters like ITN used to. Sky love bbc ldn staff don't t they , how many have they hired from there in the last 2 or 3 years ?
KY's around less and less in recent weeks, five seem to be making her exit a gentle one.
I wonder where Matt Barbett will go, in for the mornings like Rob Butler used to do. He might be on in the latter part of the week or even do the small shows on the weekend.
