I've never really watched Five News - not until very recently anyway. My analogue reception of Five is awful so it's only been possible to watch Five News since I got Freeview. Anyway, I think I will start tuning in if John Suchet is going to present it. He was always my favourite newscaster at ITN, and I was sad to see him leave in 2004. ITV News hasn't quite been the same since he left.

Your right there. Everytime one of the key newscasters at ITN/ITV leave, the ITV News at 6.30/10.30 and Lunchtime become more of a joke, and increasingly patronsing.

I thought the same about BBC News when Buerk and Sissons left, the same will occur when Ford leaves as well

Yes, that's right. The first blow was John Suchet leaving. The second came in the way of Trevor McDonald's retirement. Now, apart from Nicholas Owen, there are no 'older' presenters on ITV News. I hate it when broadcasters move towards increasingly younger presenters. While I think there should be some young talent on mainstream bulletins, I do not think it should be at the expense of older, more experienced presenters. There should be a balance in order to appeal to more age groups.
In terms of what has happened to ITV's bulletins, I'm afraid I cannot watch the Lunchtime News - that Pulse thing is ridiculous and an hour of news is far too long on a mainstream channel at lunchtime. I also don't like the dual presentation. I rarely watch the Evening News because I just cannot take to Mark Austin. I've tried, but I just don't feel comfortable watching him. The only ITV bulletin I used to watch was the News at 10.30 because it was presented by Trevor. Now, Mark Austin has taken over that bulletin as well!

I agree, Andrew. The departure of Peter Sissons and Michael Buerk from mainstream bulletins was the first blow. The second will come in the way of Anna Ford's retirement. The same thing is happening to the BBC as has happened at ITN.

Great news about John Suchet. Although Five/Sky should never have let Charlie Stayt go. And Barbara Serra has been a joke - more like a Bond glamour puss with a dodgey accent than a newsreader.

Of course, they have got Alastair Stewart, who really should have taken over the 10.30, having the necessary authority and gravitas in droves and far more so than Mark Austin, and yet he's stuck on London Tonight! What do the idiots in charge of ITV News think they're doing?!

Letting Alastair do what he wants?

Covering for the mistake they made 15 years ago!
I've asked this before, but after Alistair was dropped from News at Ten did he make any newsreading appearances for ITN, either covering on one of the bulletins or presenting the weekend news?
