Though I've no doubt John Suchet will be far better than most the presenters on Five News now, it shows how much it has lost it's identity.
Back in the ITN days, certainly through it's first five years or so, you'd have never seen anyone over 40, never mind 60, hosting 5 News.
As for John - he did retire too early, jumping before he was pushed. The irony is at the time he was probably better regarded by ITN than at anytime before - and I think it's quite likely he'd be the one taking over from Trevor McDonald if he was still with ITN now!

You're implying this is a bad thing?
I'd rather Five used more experienced presenters than kids just out of journalism courses.

To be honest, when he retired it was all very informal and it was just an attitude like "Im presenting this for the last time, bye bye"; for somone who has been around for so long I think a bit more work wouldnt go past!

John starts presenting next week...
Also, interesting to see Priya Kaur-Jones start presenting and reporting on Five over Xmas - wander who'll be doing the weekend bulletins when John starts as Barbara has gone back to reporting by the looks...Maybe more time to see the great Catherine Jones presenting...

I am so glad he is coming back from retirement. I missed him on ITV News. Nobody there is in the same league as John Suchet!
