Saw Charlie Stayt on The Wright Stuff yesterday. He said he was going to work on some documentaries. Surely if he was on the Wright Stuff then he will continue to work with five. There must be some sort of relationship between the two if he left the news so quickly then they must still on be good terms.
Been great to see Julie do all the evening bulletins this week - shes much better than Kirsty
Also, reporter Rahul Pathak did a couple of evening updates through the week and popped up again to do the sport last night. Does that mean we dont have to suffer Jonas anymore?
I’m slowly warming to Julie, as she’s got better at presenting the shows on Five. Kirsty’s always going to be tops . Anjali ( who is in the picture ) seems a natural to this and suits Five’s style to a ‘ t ’. If they could get her on the weekends more often instead of Sanderson ( or is it Gerbeau now ) and Fospero then I’d watch the news more.
Five hasn’t had a decent sports reporter ever. They should borrow Kelly Dalglish or someone.
The Observer reporting today that Sky News correspondant Barbra Serra is off to present Five News, to deputise Kirsty Young - presumably this means that Julie will definately no longer present on Five due to her new show.
Some signs of optimism for me as a regular watcher of Five news.
Catherine Jones has returned and was reporting on Five News tonight. More journalists of her calibre would be welcome.
After that there was a documentary
Terror Target London
which was an ITN production for Five and was presented by Charlie Stayt a former news reader on Five News.
It's good to see Five are still using ITN for news programmes like this and it was an excellent documentary.
She seemed pretty good - She'll probably return at some point. Not too keen on Barbara myself though, nor Kate. So I would probably give Helen the lunchtime programme. Sad to see that Julie wont be presenting on Five anymore...
I love to watch Helen, she is a fantastic newsreader and has the ability to put personality into her job. Did she do the Hull Look North? I remember when Charlie Stayt left Five News, but not why... was he sacked or did he choose to leave when Five was taken over by Sky?
Charlie left after being sidelined by Julie Etchingham, now Barbara Serra, as the second anchor for the main evening bulletins. He and Kirsty rotated when it was under the ITN tenure, but once at Sky he was only on at lunchtimes, which he wasn't too happy about.
