I did not recommend him as much presenting the full length news bulletins, but after seeing him presenting the afternoon news summaries yesterday, Ben Scotchbrook is pretty good reading the news. ITN should try and keep him as a reporter and newsreader - use him for the ITV News Channel and replace Lucy Alexander with him.

Sky News takes over the contract at 00:00 on 1/1/2005.
Until then, ITN is responsible. Between now and then, it will continue to provide short updates and that includes NY Eve.
There will be a final ITN update on 31st Jan but it will not be at midnight.
There will be no midnight update.
Sky will then be in control. They will not provide any output til 5:30 on Jan 3rd but will be on hand for newsflashes should any stories break.

How will five get away with not carrying *any* news for 2 whole days? Surely OfCom wouldn't allow that.

That's rubbish - Sky are doing the short bulletins over the weekend.

Not true - the first Sky/Five programme will be at 5.30pm on Monday 3rd Jan 2005

I'll state again, there ARE short bulletins over the weekend (ie, the little one minute evening updates).

I notice that in the Radio Times the 7pm bulletin on Friday 7 January is billed as 30 minutes. Is this a mistake, a one-off or will it be the norm on Fridays?

Nothing tomorrow - at the end of tonight's bulletin, they said the next was on Saturday.

I didn't recognise the newsreader - but his delivery sounded a bit more like an actor than a presenter..

But tomorrow IS Saturday.

It might be Christmas Day, but it's also Saturday.

You gotta wonder about this place right now, don't ya Nick?

I've even now been hassled on private message by 'The World Tonight' or whatever his name is.

Look, buddy. What I was told was from a senior member of staff at Sky News. They might have been wrong, but I'm just passing on what I was told.

If they're wrong, I'll hold my hands up and admit it, but somehow I doubt your sources are as good as mine.

So let's stop this "oh no they won't" pantomine nonsense and worry about something a bit more interesting?

Is one permitted to end a sentence with "do they not"?

One could be compared to Mr Russell Harty if one did.

One could then (allegedly) be accused of occasionally wearing pink slippers.

If one were accused of same, many and various forms of upset and legal wrangle might follow!

Initially it's staying in Studio 5.
