I've found three more images from different angles:

Arrow This one is often used lately.

And, finally, a wide shot which I have just found:

That looks very interesting indeed.
It will be interesting to see how they will use the special glass especially if they will use it over all of that space or just use sections at one time.

When I keep seeing these images the idea of a balconey is lost every time. I'm wondering whether it's going to be like ITV News' Balconey between 1999 and 2004, not in the fact of it being virtual, but just something to dress the set more.

By looking at it, it doesn't look as though the rails would even reach people's knees never mind the waste, so perhaps it's just their for extra decoration for the updates. A nice idea in a way, but a shame that it isn't a balconey. I suppose if they could walk along it, they'd have to be careful, it's higher off the ground than SKY News' big screen walkway.

Though it is a nice idea that if they've only got enough space for a bench and screens that they've built up, even if it's just for use in during the updates.

Does anyone know what will happen with the updates? Will they just be randomly around the schedule like around 2pm, 6pm, 9pm, etc or will they be more frequently, or even returning to every hour?

As for that plasma screen. It does look like it is a plasma screen, but if they've got this 'special glass' there, what is the point of it. Or will it just be to show the logo or a background to the a story being discussed with an interviewee in the studio and just use the special glass to show footage going into a report or a live link up, etc?

How does it work. From the article, it says that the glass frosts up, and I gather that it is then projected onto, is this frontal projection or rear projection?

Going back to the plasma, the image on it looks like the background to the start of the update except in oranges, maybe they'll have different colour pallettes for the day.
For example Lunchtime using oranges.

That woman looks like the tart who was Andy Hunter's wife until recently in EastEnders.

Don't see it myself, she was on Newsround back in the 90's though.

And then moved to watchdog on before eastenders, that's the only connection I can make, unless it's in the suit!

Are the main news anchors now Kirsty Young, Kate Sanderson, Julie Etchingham (the last two are both former newsround), and Charlie Stayt? So a very female dominated team?

Why will Julie only be doing the 5:30? Seems strange when Kirsty will be doing both, though i do like the idea of a different presenter to the bulletin. Maybe they're just trialing with the idea on Thursdays and Fridays.

Who will do the updates Monday - Wednesday (if Kate is doing all Thursday - Sunday updates), or will Charlie and Kirsty share the roles?

Plus as part of the deal for five to use SKY's services and technology, etc, in breaking stories for example would they be able to link to plug Sky News? e.g. "For more on this story digital viewers can tune over to Sky News (with Channel info added)", like the BBC and ITV do?

I doubt it, but you may hear, "and live on the scene is Adam Boulton from Sky News... Adam, its Kirsty from Five News, what's the situation where you are..."

Or something similar...

Presumably because presenting Sky News Today and both the evening Five News bulletins would be too long a working day.

But then you could say the same about Kate who will be doing the updates throughout the day and night (depending on how regular they are) and also the 19:00 bulletin, even though this will only be short now.

Also from the description of Kate doing all updates on Thursdays & Fridays it will make it seem very different before Home & Away (if that update is kept), as you'll have Julie with the main programme until before the ads and after it will be Kate.

Though the Friday 7pm programme with Kate will still be 30 minutes long (apparently it'll be Five News & Sport).

Everybody knows — though few admit — that British television news is not good enough. Something is missing from our heavyweight evening bulletins, and our breakfast shows are almost too embarrassing to watch next to NBC’s Today show when fronted by Katie Couric and Matt Lauer. What is wrong is that the Americans, even though they may be deluded, have an idea of America, whereas we have no idea of Britain. They, therefore, are talking to people; our anchors are talking to a demographic.

BOLL0CKS.

Anyone watching American TV news' reaction to the tsunami disaster knows that just about every other country in the world is leagues ahead in terms of news coverage. American anchors might be talking to Americans, but they're just about ignoring the rest of the world in the process.

The whole article wreaks of some horrific News Corp. influence. Shame the Sunday Times still hasn't been able to get past that after all these years.

Yep - have to agree. Whilst US News presentation often deploys some amazingly powerful graphics systems, and has some very expensive technology, their newsgathering operation on a global scale is embarassing.

Their Tsunami coverage has been consistently days behind that of the UK broadcasters - and both NBC and ABC have had to carry ITN and BBC reports - though you haven't seen ITN or the BBC carrying NBC or ABC reports...

It does make you think - could the UK public's generous response be partially a result of actually being better informed of the current situation ? (ABC were certainly reporting the UK public donations as noteworthy on World News Tonight recently)

That "five" sign looks a bit tacky IMO - it looks like it's been ripped off some shop sign and stuck in the studio (that's if it's one of those illuminated jobbies you get on shop signs - you know the type?).

Does anyone know who is presenting the first bulletin this evening? Is it Kirsty Young?
