The newsroom will be all around the studio... you can see from the artist's impressions that, like the MSNBC set, there are desks around the presenters' desk.
The area is so big that it would look strange to cluster a load of desks together and leave a giant vacuous space.

i guess that Sky News might build a newsroom between the five news set and the new sky news studio, cos then it would look a bit like MSNBC, or those other 2 Floor-american studios. Then in the background to somethings you might see the five news studio! i think that would look good!

Can't wait to see BREAKING NEWS in huge 50ft high letters on that bad boy.
Who ever said Sky News was over the top?
Uncle Bruce, you seem very cynical regarding Sky News. Would that be a fair assumption, and could you provide a more realistic size for the new Newswall. 50ft is a bit vague
Haha - no, I'm just kidding. All told, I do like Sky News a great deal. I just find it funny that they have to be so over the top all of the time.
I've no idea how big the new newswall will be - If I find out, I'll let you know.

I was under the impression they were seperate but in the same building, but I could be wildly wrong.

but will five news' newsroom be mingled with Sky's, or will there be glass seperating the five news set and five news's newsroom.

during the weird Mark Durden Smith days when everyone's favourite newsreader Chris Rogers read the news (with a very fab bed which I want) they kept it in 4:3 pillarbox.
During the better days near the end with her with the big boobs (who I miss because she was fab) they cropped stuff to 16:9. I think the BBC solution of cropping to 14:9 is a much better compromise.
Can't stand the BBC 14:9 cropping myself. Though it looks fine on terrestrial, if you are viewing on digital TV, in widescreen on a 4:3 TV, it looks awful - though admittedly 4:3 cropping would look worse.
It is time all news was in widescreen, it's been pretty much the UK standard for 4 or 5 years with other programming. One solution would be something similar to most sports programmes - screen it in widescreen, but it appears 4:3 on terrestrial TV. All 4:3 pictures are pillarboxed to 4:3.

I must admit I don't recall lots about Rise - but during the earlier (perhaps more zany days) - news was always in 4:3 and stayed that way...no cropping or stretching.

What do you want them to write... 'Twelve'?
What would be less ''obvious'' than writing the name of the channel on the side of the wall? A picture of Stalin, perhaps? Or maybe a dartboard?
As far as I know, none of the other networks plaster their logos around the place in the same way. I'd say putting a plasma screen behind her would have been the ''obvious'' choice, rather than the five logo.
Do you not think it's a lot like the blue 'FOX NEWS' logo they use in their newsroom?

No... because the Fox News logo is BLUE and says ''FOX NEWS'' in the far distance of the shot, whereas the Five logo is silver, says 'five' and is directly behind the presenter...
OBVIOUSLY
i thought you were saying that their use of block letters was original as opposed to plasma's! i was just saying that FOX use that same style of block letters ( all be it in a different shot)

Ok... well, personally I don't think it is very similar to that at all, but now at least we have established that a good 50% of this forum have a problem with the originality of TV networks using English language block lettering.
I mean, this sort of thing is quite common to US TV networks - CNN use it in their Atlanta studio, MSNBC use it, NBC use it, etc. Given that it's been done by American set designers, I shouldn't think it is totally surprising to see it.
I think we're reading a little too much into it, to be honest!
