Yes, I did think about it being a double decked studio - I hope for lots of pointless walking along the top level and Kirsty posing never to the "five" sign, proper Charlie's Angels style. Laughing

I assume the "clever glass" is what was used in the old Sky News studio between the studio and the newsroom that had the ability to have images projected on it. Like during Sky News at Ten.

it looks rather nice from the tiny glimpse we've had so far.

i do however think ch5 have missed an opportunity here. i think they should play up the fact it is now produced by sky, whether on screen or in the graphics. but sky news is very well respected, where as the "five news" brand has only existed for a very short period of time.

alot of money has gone into the relaunch, with them gaining access to so much more international resources. its a shame not to point it out.

Five's been around since 97 and they've always been seen as ground breaking. you can see their influence in all news programmes (including Sky).
and anyway im sure they will have a presence on their endcap on monday. it was only an update.

Ahh yes... cost a fortune and was used in about four ways throughout four years.

Other than News at Ten, I only once saw them use it for another purpose: to project an image of the lunar eclipse.

NBC Nightly News use the same sort of thing... so if the set has been done by (MS)NBC designers, it would make sense.

I'll gladly stop, when you stop insulting members of this board on a whim, because you're so irrationally rude.

Super.

I didn't ask you to stop. And I'm not going to stop being rude, that's just who I am.

Unfortunately I didn't have access to Sky News at this time, though I think I get what you mean. Did it have a similar appearance to News 24's projections and indeed the five news look that has just gone?

If it is this hopefully they will be able to use this on the balconey so that images of the next story can appear when walking along the balconey, to give it a new approach. They have the balconey there, so they may as well use it, even if it's just for the top of the bulletin.

Unless they're going to have the news reader walking along the balconey and down the stairs at the start of the programme in a news reader styley.

I do like the way that the graphics and studio logo represent five as a 3D entity, much like the new set of idents do.

I will certainly be tuning in on Monday evening.
Are there no other five news updates until then Monday afternoon?

One thing I do miss are the lack of updates, I liked how the updates were like BBC Three's 60 seconds when channel 5 launched in the fact that they aired every hour, now they seem to air at random points during the schedule, and I can never keep up with them!

Depends if ITV are looking for a cheap way to dissolve ITN and do things on the cheap or not ...

I wouldn't count anything like that out at all.

Not when ITN is not making a loss, ITN are well placed now with the profitability that ITN Archive brings in. i understand what your saying but i think its very unlikely.

I agree it's highly unlikely, but not impossible.

One thing that did strike me was the butchering of footage to 16:9 - I'm all for 16:9 coverage but I feel this could have been done a little more tastefully? Obviously a lot of the footage at the moment won't neccessarily be from Sky cameras - which will mean 4:3 footage - but Sky were very good in regards to it during Rise.

I think I spotted a Sky News clip in there too and it did appeared to be 4:3 lopped off...I may be wrong though. I certainly assume that anything filmed exclusively for five (there will be some stuff surely) will be entirely 16:9.

Can Sky News film in 16:9 at the moment or will their editing facilties just not allow it at the moment?

Looks very promising, what you'd expect from Sky. Lovin the block 'five' on the wall.
Did the short bulletins used to end just on a shot of the presenter though? Didn't think much to that.

She looked rather uncomfortable putting that stylus onto the tablet. I wonder if she has the foggiest what this random piece of equipment is meant to acheive?

Of course not, she's a woman! (ducks)

I really like the titles and especially the way they minimise down into the ticker - that's VERY good. The set is distinctly average, like a mix between a Virgin Megastore and a Wetherspoons's Lloyd's bar! Hate the 'five' on the wall, far too obvious and taky. Overall impression is like the set has been done by shopfitters.

Will reserve full comments until I see the full edition on Monday.

Looks very American to me - the double-decked studio reminds me of NBC's Dateline.

So far, so good!

Well from an american design group, the american feel is to be expected...
