Welcome to the forum.

I was surprised how slow Sky were to pick up on this story, given they just had to read it out the AP wire version.

As far as I could tell, News 24 had the quite terrible Peter Sissons* bumbling through an interview with an eyewitness about 2 minutes after Sky stuck up their breaking news graphic during the sports update (which they chose not to interupt).

Did they mention it before the sports update (2:30pm ish) and fail to leave the strap up or is my account above accurate?

* Next presenter to go after Hayton surely? Let him work with Silverton- see if it does the trick!

I think Peter has handled the story extremly well this afternoon. He added authority and at no point did I see him "Bubbling".

News 24 was very quick this afternoon picking the story up initally having studio analysis of other news coverage, before phones calls and interviews etc. Although Peter is naturally suited to a rolling news channel I thought he conducted himself very well.

I've never rated Sissons on N24.

Always seems unsure of himself.

He was better on BBC1 IMO.

I dont think he suits N24, he doesnt seem to know where he is half the time in my opinion.

Well I could only go on the few minutes I saw with him, but that was more than enough.

It was clear that he'd been told down his ear that they had an eyewitness on the phone during the headline sequence at 2:30. Now I'm sure it's not easy to read an autocue whilst being talked at by a director, but others seem to manage it where Sissons bumbled the rest of the headline sequence.

Then the look of absolute confusion on his face as he worked out what to do next.

Then onto the eyewitness, who was obviously going to be on a pretty dodgy telephone connection given the circumstances...so Sissons manages to take about 30 seconds (no exaggeration) posing a question that most would have phrased as "where were you when the explosions went off?"

The first rule of rolling news with correspondents/eyewitnesses at the scene of a moving story is to keep your comments/question CLEAR, CONCISE and SIMPLE. He's proved on numerous occasions that he's simply incapable of doing this, despite being perfectly adequate at reading an autocue for the national bulletins.

This is why I never understand the praise heaped on the national presenters- their jobs are way, way easier than the presenters on News 24....on the rare occasions when we've seen national presenters come onto News 24 (Edwards, Raworth etc.) they have generally proved themselves much weaker than the permanent News 24 presenters, who are obviously much sharper given their practice....except Peter Sissons.

He is definatly a bulletin man. He presented The World earlier this week and he was really good at it. When ive seen him on News 24 he seems a little in the unknown.

Wasn't Edwards a permanent N24 presenter at one time?

Okay, okay so it's been 2 years since it launched, but on N24, does the globe start spinning from where the top story is breaking? In this case Bali, then slowly rotating round and tilting up to show Europe et al.?
