ITV News political editor Nick Robinson has been given an expanded role, working across regional news programmes in England and Wales, as well as the national offering. ITV said the move is designed to create a more integrated approach to political coverage.

Sounds like a little of a reaction to his name being banded about to replace Andrew Marr when he steps down. Must be pretty soon.

Yeah. There was an interview with Robinson in the Standard this week, and he was asked what he would do if Mark Thompson offered him the BBC job. He said he'd call David Mannion and ask what it was worth...
Yesterday's London Evening Standard said that Andrew Marr will step down within the next month or two, and will be replaced by Martha Kearney.
How come Andrew Marr is stepping down? He's still quite young isn't he? I think Nick Robinson is really good, he was on Election 2001 on the BBC before he jumped ship to ITV. He would make a much better replacement than Martha Kearney.
I may be reading into things and don't take this too seriously as its just my interpretation, but in a recent article on bbc.co.uk Andrew Marr said something about not being able to get to the real heart of the elction campaign due to the 'beast that is TV news'. This gives the impression that he would perhaps rather work in some other form of media/political reporting etc. Also, it was quite well publicised at one point that he doesn't enjoy spending so much time away from his wife and children.
I'm not sure if the BBC would want to take Nick Robinson back if he were to cost so much - there are plenty of other, equally capable, people in-house at the BBC for instance.
The rumours I've heard about Marr standing down are related to him taking over the heavyweight Sunday morning political show after David Frost retires.

Now that makes sense, no way Marr is retiring and he would make a great replacement for David Frost.
