It was really good. I like the way they've maintained the camera angles from the Evening News and not incorporated the default NC ones all the time.

Horrible...HORRIBLE title sequence. The whole circle/cubes thing is good enough but the ending is yet again appalling! PowerPoint typewriter text followed by an overly large 'EXTRA' flying in? No thanks.

Caught some of this tonight - nothing special. They had a debate with 2 MPs on the woman who was jailed for refusing to pay the increase on her council tax; this was followed by an in-depth interview with Ms Dynamite on single mothers. I can only remember the one phone call.

Mark Austin will be doing it tomorrow so it looks like they'll be alternating every day.

Oh yeah, and it ended at 7.30 with Joyce popping up to do 25 minutes by herself.

hmmmm not sure about it, just following News 24 I fear.

reminds me of the second half hour of the lunchtime news.

I'm not keen on all the time spent on promoting the programme DURING the Evening News. It is wasting valuable time which could be used for GIVING us the news, not asking what we think about it.

I have nothing against people phoning in and having their say, but I would much rather they just gave us the news. And I'm not in a minority in saying this.

The other day was ridiculous, promoting 'The Shot' and 'Evening News Extra' both during the Evening News. Must have wasted at least 2 minutes if not more.

Couldn't agree more. In last night's 10.30 news, they even had a VT of Trevor reading the phone numbers out for The Shot. I wish ITV wouldn't run trailers during the news programmes - it just isn't appropriate.

Not seen a whole bulletin this week so can't comment on that specifically - but it's very annoying in the morning bulletins at 10.55 / 11.55 that half of the summary is given over to plugging The Pulse!

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just "Today on the Pulse we're discussing this. Call us with your opinions on..." but ITV News seem to thing we're unable to come up with our own questions so give us three of four examples each time they plug it!

P.S. Any ratings in for ENE and N24T yet - and how do they compare to last week!

Instead of Evening News Extra on the NC why don't ITV do extra news on ITV1. For the past couple of weeks the show has finished by 6.55pm and that includes the regional news update.

I was under the impression that ITV had to run at least a half hour of high-quality national and international news (which in commercial TV presumably means 26/27 minutes) and they are not meeting that requirement at the moment. (I'm talking about the minutage not the high-quality aspect of this remit. They haven't fulfilled that requirement for year IMO).

Didn't see you posting when the late ITV News was extended way past 11pm whenever there is a story worthy of it, or when the Sunday evening ITV News was extended from 15 to 20 minutes.

Obviously I didn't post then because it has nothing to do with my point, which is about primetime (6.00-10.30), regular programming (not specials) and the ITV Evening News and not a weekend bulletin.

Well, a 30 minute programme can contain up to 7 minutes of adverts, plus trailers, so only needs to be 22-23 minutes in length.

And remember now that generally the Evening News doesn't have a break mid-programming, so finishing at 6.55 is equivalent to finishing a couple of minutes later with an internal break!

I don't think OFCOM are terribly fussy on the length of each programme as long as it balances itself out over the week - so the length of the EN generally depends on what time Emmerdale begins, which is usually later on Tuesdays and Thursdays when EastEnders is on!

P.S. Neither Mark or Mary does ENE tonight. Felicity stood in for Mary on the EN, but Steve Scott is doing the Extra programme!
