God there’s some utter tosh being chatted here. I’ve been watching Newsnight since the 80s and to me it’s anything but a damaged brand. It’s delivering the same quality high end news as it’s always done.

Leave it well alone!!!

Emily Maitliss should become the main presenter. She’s excellent. If not, I think Shaun Ley should get a chance.

So you don't feel that the cancellation of the broadcast of their Jimmy Saville investigation, nor the false accusation of child abuse that they did report, damaged the programme and the brand beyond repair? In the years since, their reporting has been somewhat lame at best, and they have not done anything to really repair their damaged reputation since. Newsnight is a lame horse right now, and should be put out of its rather prolonged misery.

Shame that polls can't be created on TVF - it would be interesting to see precisely how many members think Newsnight should be axed and precisely how many think it shouldn't.

Regardless, it'll be a fairly big moment if it does get the chop.

You could do a poll on Twitter and embed it I suppose.

It was Evan Davis' final Newsnight last night - including a rather good 'bit' in which Evan wandered behind the scenes and used CSO to good effect (from 11:44 onwards).

Note also the mistake on the credits at the end (unless it is some sort of bizarre in-joke?)

That's a Unicode issue. Those two characters should have been rendered as é.

Yep - my theory is that her Editor credit usually appears on the copyright slide, no? They switched it last night so that Evan Davis' Presenter credit appeared there instead. Clearly the roller credit isn't used to displaying her name and there was thus a Unicode credit.

Although, her name isn't actually spelt with an é anywhere in the various press releases about her getting the Editor gig, so perhaps that was another error?

Still no replacement named then?

Guess they are waiting to see who gets Question Time before finalising what happens with the Newsnight presenting team?
