On Wednesday, euronews is launching africanews, a pan-African news channel based in Pointe Noire, Congo. It will broadcast in English and French to start. It also looks like it will have more in-vision presenting than euronews does, though it will feature its own version of "No Comment."

I haven't really seen this anywhere on here, but I thought it was important to note, especially if we're going to keep making fun of Arise News' failed attempt to do something similar. Apparently the africanews website has been up and running since January!

I also came across this article that says euronews will launch an all-new website and on-air look on May 17. Perhaps it will resemble the new africanews identity?

I was browsing their website a few weeks back and I think it's great to see this idea, especially after the Arise News debacle

I've only watched a little bit of africanews so far, but it looks pretty decent. Only thing that's a little annoying is that the graphics keep flashing between English and French.

I uncovered some more of the new euronews look coming on 17 May. The logo is changing to match the africanews logo, which is a shame since they'll now have to change the sign outside their new building. The graphics look pretty similar to africanews too. It looks like the most comprehensive redesign of the whole channel since the 2008 look (which I loved).

That new package looks gorgeous (except for the hideous ||| device they use on the "Markets" slide). Hopefully it will look just as polished on-screen.

The banner on the website has been updated, though the all-new website is available here:

Pretty much the same layout as africanews' website.

I hate to judge it so soon, but it just doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel like "euronews." I love the new logo. The lower thirds are way too big and are reminiscent of CNN's lower thirds with Gotham shouting at you. The crawl/flipper is way too big and unnecessary, especially if they're trying to reimagine euronews as a more vertically-integrated news organization. It keeps showing the same headlines and pointless weather and market information that you should be getting on your phone instead. I'm not sure how I feel about the glossiness of the opens and everything else. Though I will say that I do miss the more minimalist approach of the 2008 and 2013 looks already.

Also, are they doing away with the separate branding for each mini-show? Sport was rolled in right after the news bulletin with no separate branding or open of its own.

Edit: Because I'm too lazy to have actually recorded it myself, here's most of the launch of the new identity. This launch party at Cannes is just like everything euronews does — a little opulent, confusing, and mostly unexplained.

Trying to get celebrities to comment on the euronews identity is harder than it seems.

The big moment. A big relaunch video was played right after. I haven't seen it online anywhere yet.

It's a strange mix of too big, US inspired glossy graphics and some too small, simple ones used for names. Looks a bit messy tbh. The openings are nothing special and music, especially during the headlines is plain boring.

Nothing beats this anyway....

A couple of teething problems with the ticker, I've seen a text over the top of other text.

^ I agree. The headline bed is actually the same piece of music that they've used since the late 2014 refresh.

My favorite was this era below, with the 2011 opens with the timelapses of Lyon being a close second.

Quatorzine Neko and NYTV gave kudos

^ "No Comment Live" is exactly what it is — when the No Comment segment features live images. It's been around for a long time now.

But here's a surprise — the new look was done (in part) by Lambie Nairn with music from David Lowe.

Edit 2: What idiot thought it was a good idea to rename "Le Mag" as "CULT"????
