One wierd thing about Euronews is how it use to close down at 02:00 till about 06:00, which for a largely automated news channel seemed superflous. At closedown you got a presentation treat - a few seconds from every Euronews ident, accompanied for some reason by the ITN Early Evening News music from the early 1990s!

I had a search around and found 1 source, click here, but you'll have to be able to understand French
. Basically backs up what the original poster has said. Interestingly it says there will be a new logo, new look, new programme names and a revamped website. So I am guessing this is going to be a big change.

I remember when we originally got Cable TV, I was flicking through the channels at 4.00am on one occassion and couldn't believe that Euro News was showing a Test card!
They took it off not too long after, for us for a while EN time shared with BBC Parliament. It's a good News servic and it is very balanced, but it just seems lifeless sometimes.

Looking at that, it appears EuroNews has never had a good logo - so lets hope the new one looks good, rather than '10 mins on Powerpoint' style of graphic design they've had in the past .
I wonder if this total revamp, is ahead of France 24 after being told by Pres.Sarkosy that they will have to drop all non-French language broadcasts soon, and EuroNews are now going to run with the other European language batons.
Eventually will we see the former France 24 news presenters being seen on screen, perhaps?

A direct translation from Google of that article:
Euronews changes everything from June
The news channel EuroNews announced a "genuine strategic renewal" of its mark for June 4.
With 0.1% market share in France on cable & satellite, and nearly 4.7 million viewers, Euronews has decided to change by offering an "extreme makeover": new logo, new signing, new dress, new names for programs, the new website ...
Created there are now fifteen years, Euronews is distributed throughout the world and remains a "leader in open court in Europe despite competition increasingly fierce," says the release.

They used to before adding New York time. They are currently on an expansion drive in the US.

But it's called EuroNews, why are they broadcasting out of Europe? I hope it's not going to be an MTV situation where they stopped playing music videos but still called it "Music Television" under the logo.

The channel broadcasts news in multiple European languages - that is its USP. It isn't aimed pnly at Europe - it is aimed at speakers of those languages - who also live in North America, Africa, Asia etc.

Absolutely. Although it focuses on European news and views (they have a sort of convention with either the EU or the Council of Europe) it covers events from all over the world and it is aimed to viewers wherever in the world.

It is like any news channel be it Fox or BBC or France 24 - all aim to provide news to the world (some in more than one language like F24) but from different perspectives. EuroNews delivers a European perspective on international matters.
Unrelated, but how long has EuroNews been on SKY? Not since its launch in 1993?
