It's really not so extraordinary - I used to do 32 hour shifts reasonably often as a doctor, and my wife still does from time to time. I'm sure there are plenty of other industries too where it's not unusual.
Doesn't mean that it's right though - particularly in the case of doctors.
How anyone can stay fully alert and not risk patient safety over that length of time is beyond me. But that's off topic.
I've done 20 hour days in the past myself but there was no chance of me being fully alert for the entire period.
I wonder how these journalists are able to stay awake for so long. One BBC producer director (I can't remember which but I think he worked with Jeremy Vine) was up for over 30 hours. I imagine it's a rush covering such a story but at the end your going to be dragging.
Also, I never would have noticed this but with some close up shots you could see the male presenters whiskers coming in over night in real time. For me it's just I wake up the next morning and it's there.
