Could ITV not get anymore sterile?

Do you not like the blue background?

Not really, everything just looks sterile to me. Maybe it's because it's VR. But then again, the 2005 election VR set was amazing in my opinion.

BBC's coverage looking good. Emily Maitlis is a great asset, too.

I think the BBC will be able to fill the gaps better than ITV, going by the General Election coverage.

I don't think it looks sterile, but compared to the BBC's studio, it does look very small.

Publishing information setting out the practicalities involved in helping people to vote, such as when the polls are open, the wording of the question, expectations of when the result may be known, etc. are allowed, but the BBC stops short of actually encouraging people to vote.

The 8pm News Update started with the words "Have you voted yet? There's just two hours to go..." which could be considered encouraging people to vote (which is no bad thing).

Eastenders could've been less subtle. First there was Honey asking Billy if he was "in or out" and saying it was important. Then Masood finished a conversation in the street with Denise with a completely apropos-of-nothing "Don't forget to vote on the referendum. It's very important."

So that's you told.

France 24 doing a full opinion show right now, so they must think they can. Their reporter in London was just in a pub telling a Remain supporter he was surprised at how many Leave voters he'd spoken to today, and if he was worried. Now it's a talking heads pros v. cons discussion of the EU.

Gawd, sounds as bad as the time Sonya was "interrupted" checking out the new BBC Three online, complete with close ups of her laptop screen...

I always wonder if a fully VR set saps the atmosphere of these sort of events. I don't think i'd enjoy presenting such a long programme in a green box.

That VR set is so horrendous I find it hard watching ITV at the best of times.

Their best election show was in 1997 when they constructed a set in the atrium. It was brilliant, interesting and had atmosphere.

Peston just posted a preview on Facebook. You can sense just how bland it must feel in there.

Blue is a soothing colour. It takes me back to the ITN background of 1995 to 1999.

Furthermore, Tom is hilarious.
