I've just realised it looks like it supposed to be an 'e' for Europe presumably.

Is it the red from the Union Jack?
I thought that, it could also represent the out campaign - Vote Leave are using red as their colour.
My thought was that it could be representing the two flags - the blue and yellow are clearly the same shades as in the EU flag, the red looks the same bright shade used on the Union Jack as opposed to the darker red used for BBC News.
Looks a bit dull from that still. Trying to figure out what the red symbolises? Just BBC News?

I would venture a guess that the hexagon was left open to signify whether or not the UK will be in or out. Inside the hexagon is blue and yellow the colors of the EU. The red on the hexagon I would guess would signify the red on the Union Jack.

I'm never a fan of the three primary colours being used together with white in stark contrasts. That is why I dislike Sky News's graphics.
