Norman Smith said on Victoria Derbyshire this morning that the first results should start coming in around 2am, by 6am pundits can probably make a projection and then around 7.30am the official announcement from Manchester.

Presumably there'll be an exit poll? Otherwise they've 4 hours to fill before the first result comes in.

No exit poll. No relevant historical polling to base it on, and therefore no guarantee of any accuracy.

John Curtice - who knows alot about these things - recommended going to bed around 7pm and getting up about 2am in order not to miss anything important.

There will be a lot of chat and filling for the first few hours, but that could be interesting in itself - at least to see if the language used by either side changes much now that the campaign is over.

No exit poll - Broadcasters are concerned over the accuracy, as the telegraph reports: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/20/when-are-the-eu-referendum-results-what-time-will-we-know-the-wi/

BBC also have Prof. John Curtice - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36596647

Apparently there was no exit poll for the Scottish Referendum. I assume there will still be polls of polls and such like so still plenty to discuss.

EDIT: bbcsport beat me to it

Thanks for that everyone.

So after 24 hours of nothing, we'll get 4 hours of concentrated waffle before any news

They can't do an exit poll because then they'd have to do a remain poll as well for balance.

I'll get me coat.

They've got the voter turn out count to do first before moving on to local counts with the Newcastle Sunderland race.

I take it the BBC's Referendum night coverage is coming from Elstree with the same set used for the local and general elections?

While there's no formal exit poll, Sky has commissioned an "on the day" poll from YouGov, so that will give the pundits something to talk about once it is published at 10pm.
