The debate on BBC1 seems to have gone belt and braces with mics - one on the lapel, a Madonna mic and one on the desk for each participant.

The multiple microphones appear to be causing the problem that we can hear the other side conferring over whoever is speaking.

I think that was probably a conscious choice to allow interjections, I wouldn't expect mics to be taken down fully during a debate style show.
Warbler, Nicky and dosxuk gave kudos

HEATSTREET is Louise Mensch's right-wing news website and also a member of Vote Leave.

She might be involved, but the copyright at the bottom of the front page says Dow Jones & Company, which has been owned by NewsCorp since 2007, so it's basically a Murdoch front.
There's no Murdoch editorial override in play - The Sun is in the Leave camp, but isn't The Times promoting Remain? And Sky News is banned from taking a side at all.

That's correct. Worth noting that there's a split also with the Sunday Times supporting Brexit, along with the Daily Mail, while the Mail on Sunday is supporting Remain.

That has been interesting, not sure why the Mail On Sunday would be supporting the Remain camp, they are usually lock step with the Daily Mail on most things.

However the Times is favoured by a lot in the business community, which is overwhelmingly behind the Remain campaign, so it makes sense for the Times to favour Remain. If I remember correctly, Murdoch's spoken in favour of Brexit before, so we know where his editorial standpoint is.

The two editors really don't get on with each other apparently.

It's an internal dispute between Paul Dacre, an old fashioned right winger and Georgie Greig, a Europhile who is the new golden boy and friendly with Lady Rothermere. The battle is who edits the Daily Mail in the future. Greig has used the Sunday edition to be more centrist in nature in comparison to the traditional right wing rot Dacre keeps pumping out.

Can I interject and say how great this thread has been, people sticking to 'Presentation of the REF BUT NOT DEBATE OF THE REF' has been superb. So easy to stray, so glad people haven't.

Any chance they'll temporarily rename it "Brexfast" the morning when the results come in? Smile

Norman Smith said on Victoria Derbyshire this morning that the first results should start coming in around 2am, by 6am pundits can probably make a projection and then around 7.30am the official announcement from Manchester.

In contrast to the last one back in 1975, where if you've watched the 2 hours that remains of the results programme, recently on BBC Parliament - that count was done during Friday daytime.
