It was a basic slip of the tongue. A rather unfortunate one but regardless it wasn't that bad.
I'm glad I'm not David Dimbleby right now. It's hard to see a blooper that could have been any worse.

He referenced the death of Jo Cox and then opened the floor to audience questions, saying, with this tribute clearly still fresh in his mind: "Our first question comes from Jo Cox please." He then realised his mistake, gave the correct name and added, "what a terrible thing to say".

What exactly did he say?

Thanks for sharing this. It was an error no doubt about that and he did reference he had made an error.

I don't know why the Mirror would reference that slip up as heartbreaking. I watched the video & there was no shouts of outrage from the programme's audience. It's just an unfortunate mistimed error from Dimbleby himself; that's all. The manner in which the tabloids write this story with their standard of journalism is just pathetic.
All tabloid newspapers are trash papers drawn out from a gutter. I'm not condoning Jo Cox's horrible death in any way regarding this story, however, the tabloids should have a bit more cop on in writing non-credible tabloid crap about the BBC.

It looks like Andrew Neil's interview with IDS won't be rescheduled...
IDS pulled out of last Friday's interview, for understandable reasons. His people didn't want re-schedule. https://t.co/2gRh9Elalh

Can't imagine what the Daily Mail could have turned that into, if they had.
Quite surprisingly they didn't edit the slip up out in the late night repeat just now on BBC1.

Is this accurate? Esther McVey would drive me to abandon neutrality as well!

In all seriousness, the suggestion that a journalist asking a question as devil's advocate, and giving them the opportunity to reply, is an issue of impartiality is laughable.
