Michael Buerk used to wink at the end of the news.

"And on a day that a million people died in a nuclear holocaust, good night." <WINK>

. . . of course, Michael Buerk also used to tap his pen on the desk at the start of each bulletin:

I'm sure at the end of one evening bulletin, he got out a handkerchief and blew his nose.

I used to like Michael Buerk's signoff at the end of the Ten O'Clock News:

"Newsnight's starting now, over on BBC2 [motions with head to the left], but from the Ten O'Clock News, good night [wink]."

And back when BBC World had proper closing sequences, I used to like the extended version:

"That's all from the BBC World newsroom, here in London, for the moment."

Sally Magnuson turned to the weather presenter at the end of Reporting Scotland this evening and said "just chat away". Found it rather amusing after reading through this thread!

When did Reporting Scotland get that new desk? And that endboard looks rather strange, as if they've just filmed one of the projector cubes.

They've had that desk since they moved to Pacific Quay.

It's a little bit different, looks like they've re-panelled it so it looks more like the standard BBC News desk.

And on Newsnight, which is a vast improvement:

Possibly new? The lighting is very different, don't know if it could be modified that much?

When did Newsnight change the circular desk to a sqaure desk? Did they use the other baking tray too then?
