No it's not going to happen for a while but just this week the First Minister for Scotland is asking for a Scottish six. User opinion say there should be a seperate broadcasting corparation for Scotland. In the upcoming decade do you think our "British" way of broadcasting will be changing. Just a theory

What would it cost?

About £500 a year to pay for television in Scotland, split amongst the households in Scotland.

Still, it would knock a few shillings off the cost of a licence in the rest of the UK, so I think I'm all for it, personally.

I think was discussed in an earlier thread and referred to you for decision.

Yeah I Suppose it would make it better for England. What's God got to do with this?

What I could see is That there would be 2 versions of BBC 2. BBC 2 North, for Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Man, and BBC 2 south. for Wales, England, and the Channel islands. This would'nt be like a local version, it would be two different versions of the channel network wise, not just a local opt out. ie, a version of Newsnight for NI and Scotland, with the Newsnight scotland bit stayin, and during that time period, a Newsnight NI optout. Same principal for England and wales. I really couldn't see it feasble to have a total split, and what I just said sounds the most realistic, if implausible way it would work. A scottish six would go nowhere. A "northern" ten might happen, but probably is very unlikely.

yes ... thats right ... it'd be really great if the english licecnce fee payers could shell out on yet more programming for scotland. Rolling Eyes

how about a level playing field where your £135.50 gets you exactly the same level of service wherever you are in the UK. then for those nations, or politicians in nations, who want more can throw some money in the pot to fund these little add-ons. of course taking the argument further, the corporation ought to spread the jobs around the country more too, which in turn would make it more reflective of the entire country as opposed to being so rooted in london

I can imagine the people of Yorkshire being really pleased to be labelled as southerners under this scheme...

tvmercia, I think you've totally misunderstood calum141's post.

I think what calum141 was actually saying was: If there were a seperate Scottish licence fee, and therefore no money from English licence fee payers went to Scotland, it is that that would be better for England.

Maybe how I said it gave you the wrong impression or possibilly you need to book an appointment at Specsavers - it would be benefitial to England because the license fee would have to decrease because we would just be paying for English service!

What a crap arguement and indeed thread. All very scaremongerish isn't it? If anything the fee would go up because there would be around 4 million less Liscence (sp?) fee payers.
