BBC News has announced that Emily Maitlis will take the role of Lead Presenter of Newsnight, with Kirsty Wark taking an advanced role and Emma Barnett also joining the presenting line up.
Emily is great choice for lead presenter and was practically a shoe-in from when Evan left. It's typical BBC to go overboard with all-female line-up of presenters so not to be accused of anything.

I don't think it's a case of that. Newsnight already had two stellar presenters in Emily and Kirsty, and it just so happens that Emma Barnett has been considered the best for the job. She's been very impressive on ITV's After The News, 5 Live and on Newsnight when she's covered in the past.
Excellent choices. Kirsty and Emily have been presenting Newsnight for years and are both fantastic and Emma has been a rising star at the Beeb for a while and showed with her Marr stand-in shift she's a formidable interviewer.
The only shame is that Newsnight for a while hasn't been the show it once was and has very much been the forgotten show in the BBC's news programming while the national news bulletins, Today, Marr, Question Time etc get more of the attention. All three presenters are excellent so hopefully the show gets a bit more focus now.

Absolute RUBBISH.
Sorry but not in decades have women been so prominent in television news. I wrote my thesis entitled 'Women working in the dominant patriarchy of television news'.... in 1995! I interviewed Adie, Rippon, Ford and Somerville. This is a long time coming...
The BBC are not going 'overboard'. That's a ridiculous notion. They are aligning with what's correct, ultimately based on skills and talent.
