It's a shame- I think the Sky News relaunch has taught us that single headed (and triple headed) bulletins don't really work.
This move, if correct, puts single headed bulletins head-to-head at 5pm in a new battle for the winning "early evening news bulletin"- I fundamentally think rolling news should not be about these kind of bulletin battles.
Having said that, JT on Sky News has frankly looked amateurish on his own, and I'm fairly sure that Huw Edwards will give him a kicking in the slot. It will be hard for Sky to 'protect' one of their big faces- unless they make the obvious move of dropping Rubin at 8 and bringing in Thompson to rescue that slot.
The 5-6 Edwards slot is also worring from the point of view that it leaves 6-7 unannounced- could this be (as Press Gazette suggests) be for a 6 O'clock newshour simulcast in the same way as the 10? This would be a regressive step in my opinion.
So the new slots are looking like:
8-11...McCoy/Silverton
11-2...Hill/Amroiliwala
2-5...Sopel/Mincham
5-6...Edwards
6-7...6 news hour?
7-10...Ben Brown/Emily Maitlis
10-11...10 news hour
11-....Chris Eakin

Interesting.
I get the feeling Jane and Matthew enjoyed working together, and both enjoyed working during the day when there was probably more breaking news - which they are both great at. Be good to see them back on-screen together if that is the plan.
Interesting to compare the News 24 of 1997 with the News 24 of 2006. A lot has changed - but a lot of familiar faces remain (and may be joined by other News 24 "graduates")

Maybe it's because I'm a Sky News kinda guy, I dunno, but there's nothing about this news that excites me and makes me think "wow, that sounds like watching". Huw is vastly overrated - he's good, but nowhere near the best. The rest just seems like the same old faces with the addition of the 2 at 7pm, neither of which really strike me as being anything special. I'd sooner watch the likes of Martin Stansford, Kay Burley and Jeremy Thomson

Gawd this takes me back. Who was there in the beginning - during the "car crash in a shower" set.
Sarah Montague and Gavin Esler, Jane Hill and Matthew Amroliwala and Sian Williams. And Krishnan Guru Murthy too!
Here's an urban legend... apparently Krishnan wasn't too keen on the channel and when he finally was signed to Channel 4 News, he had his contract biked over to Television Centre and signed on the dotted line while presenting!
It was around the time when they used to have that dreadful phone-in where er, no-one would phone in. And the story that always gets told about some footage of pigs playing the mud and a caption popping up which said:
JENNIE BOND
Royal Correspondent.

Whats the right one then?
I think you'll see the re-uniting of one on-screen couple with two people moving/leaving to make way for the other...
That suggests to me then that Peter Dobbie is moving to BBC World as some have already speculated.
Peter Dobbie is Adrians replacement on BBC World I was told.

That is completely wrong - the only people you've got in the correct place are Matt and Jon apart from Emily and Ben...

At the moment at 6.30 it is Sports day on BBC News 24.
Not always. Depends on how much sport there is. On Fridays Sportsday starts at 6.30, but usually it's 6.45.

Don't like the idea of a 6 simulcast, especially with Kerplunksky & Murnahurnahan. What between 6.30 & 7? Quarter hour of business & quarter hour of sport?
